Anyone who thinks that Hakeem is not a top 5 center, needs to be straped to a bunk-bed and take a serious beating with a pillow case full of bars of soap.

Wrong. At best Wilt could expect a draw with Russell.

I agree with russell and wilt being top two and shaq being number 3. I would however slide hakeem at 4 and kareem at 5...
Put Magic at his prime with Dream I'm sure you'll be seing Hakeem with rings at his first year out.. . Hakeem was a one man Warrior with his tiny trap weapons hangin at the threepoint line.

    WRONG! WRONG! WRONG! WRONG!

Kareem dominated in the NBA from the time he walked onto the court. Akeem(retro Hakeem) was real good but was not dominate early and was not the offensive force he turned out to be later. The problem is most remeber old Kareem and prime time Hakeem.

Also, there is no way in HELL Patrick Ewing was a better player than David Robinson. You can look at it anyway you want: stats, defense, playoff success, regular season success. No way Patrick Ewing was better than David Robinson at any point and time.

Behad,,,, I believe your in need of some stat's.... Wilt averaged over 30 points and 20 rebounds a game against Russell. Not one good game but his career stats. I would call that beating his man.

As for Wilt not playing anybody, he went from the Russell era to the Thurmond, Reed era to the Unseld, Kareem and Lanier era. I'm not sure who started the he didn't play anybody crapola but he was awesome and changed his game to suit every era he played in. He wasn't just a defensive wiz or an offensive wiz.... he was the whole package. Downplay his stats all you want he was the GREATEST.

So is this poll just a tad bit biased or what? Nah, Hakeem was the king, and Yao will be the greatest! :D

    Yao Ming 20 12.35%
    Hakeem Olajuwon 72 44.44%

I think the above is spot on except Russell should be #3 and Shaq & Hakeem should be a draw for 4/5. If Shaq gets another title and MVP he probably will be a solid 4 moving up though.

I think Kareem has 6 MVPs, 6 rings and a few scoring titles. Hakeem just doesn't match up with him over Kareem's career, sorry. There is no shame in that, Kareem is one of the 3 best players ever.

What about RIK SMITS? He wasn't so bad. He's definately better than Vlade Divac. Arvidas Sabonis could of easily been top 10 if he played in the NBA during his prime.

Yep, you may be mistaking him with Guard John Lucas.

    Mine. would be
    1. Wilt (Domination, more offense than defense)
    2. Hakeem (Best all around center, and most athletic)
    3. Russell (Best team center, Dominate on Defense)
    4. Kareem (Offense)(Tie)
    5. Shaq (Offense, low post domination)(Tie)

Hakeem, when he first came out he did dominate. Look at the first time he went to the playoffs. Against L.A. they had no answer for him. Hakeem was stealing balls and Blocking shot left and right. The only way they dealt with him was to get him ejected. Kareem could not gaurd him at all. Plus after that He bascially carried the team to there first Championship. Think Hakeem as a Larry Bird but more athletic

Why did you use dominate instead of dominant? Do they teach that nowadays? I see that a lot. Same with historical in place of historic. Dominate isn't an adjective damnit!!!

Okay, I feel better now. Carry on... :)

    no offense qazi, but WTF?!?!!?!?!?

he shouldnt be anywhere near top 100 centers. hes fat, immobile, and cant hit a shot passed 10 feet.

Sabonis is the biggest crybaby in NBA history, except for Detlef Schrempf:mad: .

Sabonis never played in his prime. He was in Russia till he was like 30. That was after numerous injuries, which damaged his skill. When he finally came, he was no where near his prime.

(well, at least from what I hear.)

The top two centers are Kareem and Wilt, not neccessarily in that order. It is just Rocket homerism to consider Hakeem above them. To many people remember the old man Kareem who was still playing pretty good but was mostly just throwing up skyhooks. Not enough people remember the dominant offensively and defensively Kareem that was blocking more shots than Olajuwon did.

This thread should read "Houston's favorite center of all time."

This poll is clearly not showing the greatest, but the most favorite.
