Contradictory. Or we have a different definition of dislike. I can't dislike a team and respect them Here a litmus test to declare our definitions Can you dislike a player and respect them. I can't Maybe because I reserve dislike to sports teams a players who I hate in a sports way.

I agree with heypartner, if I dislike a team I'm not gonna give the respect. I think the more fitting word to use is "sports teams that you envy" in that case mainly the ones already listed on this thread.
Honestly... after watching Dirk go off in the 2011 playoffs and destroy the Heat, I'm not longer a Mav hater. I certainly dislike them, but they have a bit of my respect.
I would say the 49ers. I respect them, but will never forgive them for the immaculate reception. I can't stand the patriots. lip reading signal stealing, playing fanfare over the loudspeakers, I don't care how good they are. I neither like nor respect them.
Yankees, Cowboys, Lakers Absolute hate, but respect for any franchise that can amass and sustain nationwide popularity like they do.
Hate Laker have to respect them Hate Cardinals (baseball) have to respect them Hate Steeler have to respect them ABSOLUTELY HATE THE COWGIRLS, will never in my life respect them.
Lakers. I really hate them but they're proven their worth time and again. Spurs. I don't hate them but even if I did, I'd have to respect them. Same with Celtics. Cardinals and Patriots too.
Anyone who gets away with cheating or blatantly hiring crappy non-behaving or classless players to win championships doesn't get my respect. That only leaves the San Antonio Spurs and Tampa Bay Buccaneers in my list.
Real Madrid & Barcelona (Soccer) Spurs & Heat Broncos & Patriots Will never respect the Raiders, the Jazz or the Mavs (except Dirk who earned my respect in 2010).
The older I've gotten, the less I seem to care enough to hate another team. The Jazz aren't even who they once were. But there is one recent moment I felt hate towards another team/player. I remember TY Hilton doing his "TY" celebration after his touchdownS in the first game against the Colts. Before that happened... Case was playing so well, the lead was big, Andre Johnson was beasting, there was a glimmer of hope. "Maybe the Texans can still go undefeated in the division. Beat the Colts today, two layups against Jax, then beat the Titans and Colts again... Go 8-0 in the division, beat Arizona and Oakland, and slide into the playoffs at 10-6." Those thoughts were really going through my head at the start of the 3rd. Then TY Hilton happened, THREE TIMES... Damn this season sucked.
Won a championship with them. He was instrumental in their run in the early 2000's. What about him is bad or controversial?
Further clarification of my sports definition of hate/dislike If I hate someone, it's because they lost my respect. Thus. The OP is Contradictory to me I think maybe I reserve the word while others use it to list teams they hope lose. That's different in my book As HR Dept said, the older I get the less I care to hate on a sports team/player Bottomline: I hate the spurs because I have zero respect for their fans and coach. Yes I don't hate or disrespect Duncan, but I hate their fans and coach BECAUSE I have no respect for either. Sorry Duncan. Wish I could respect your team. Biut I don't and you going along with t will forever taint my opinion of you
