new show saturday nights on 1560 i am looking forward to this for a couple of reasons 1 if i am home during this time i have alternative programming 2 i think it will be a great chance to have a hip hop oriented show, one that wont be commecially driven, we havent had that since damage control radio on pft, 1st show this saturday may 23rd the night signal is not high quality, but the stream works fine http://www.1560thegame.com/media/?page_id=764 “The Houston Sports Rapp” is a weekly sports talk show on Houston’s 1560am “The Game” airing Saturday nights from 10pm-12am. Aptly named for it’s host Atom “The Mouth” Rapp, and co-hosted and produced by Ish aka “The Greatest Face in Radio”, The Houston Sports Rapp goes far beyond the normal boundaries of standard sports talk. With several stints in local public and pirate radio together, both as DJ’s and on air personalities, this duo is now ready to kick the door in on the world of sports radio. Integrating great cutting edge local and national music, and a wide array of local sports topics outside the scope of traditional sports commentary, the simple goal of the show is to bring Houston sports talk to the listener in a new and entertaining fashion. — Adam Rapp Was born minutes from the Dome in the orange hat era of the Astros circa 1975. He attended. St. Thomas More for gradeschool through 8th grade where he was an HPAL basketball city All Star and played with Calvin Murphy Jr at point guard. Adam was born with athleticism, competitivness and a hustle unlike any other. He went on to attend St. Thomas High school with Dom and Johnny Mandola of THE Mandola gang and played 3 sports to stay active and out of trouble. After transferring to Westbury High school in his southwest Houston neighborhood junior year, he received the dream of a lifetime by playing a playoff football game senior year in the same Dome that shadowed his childhood memories. Attending Westbury in the goldenage of underground hip hop in 1992-94 fueled Adam’s passion for mixtapes, spittin rhymes, organizing parties and shows, and most of all promoting via street teaming. After promoting for local artists and producing shows at various clubs in the mid 90s he met his future partner in crime, Ish, through mutual friends in the sw skateboarding community and immediately clicked due to their shared passion of sports and music. (I mean they were so bored one summer they would watch the comets in the wnba finals at ish’s house!). As they branched out to work on national touring shows that were coming to Texas as a team, the doors began to open and in 97 helped organize the first Houston/Austin SXSW hip hop showcase that has grown to be a staple of the festival even today. They have worked with a who’s who of artists including Biz Markie, Hieroglyphics, Boot Camp Clik, Common, Living Legends, just to name a few… In 99 the fellas met a group of pirates who were planning a new underground radio station that would be broadcast within the loop at a 100 watts and jumped at the chance to gain experience in the radio world. Adam hosted a show called Concrete Sports and Ish would come on right after with an underground hip hop show called The Puppet Show. This lasted a while until the studio was raided and shut down by the FCC for pirating the air waves. Adam was determined to make his way on the air again and was lucky enough to have the best two young, up and coming Houston sports talk radio team in his corner, you might recognize their names, John&Lance! After a couple of in studio bits during the Limatime era, the music biz for hip hop was exploding in Htown so he buried himself in promoting and put the sports talk career to the side for the time being. After moving to Austin a couple different times following the dream, and the uncertainty in the music biz post 9/11 Adam went to work for Whole Foods Market for nearly 7 years from Texas to California and was fortunate to make many life long friendships with coworkers, vendors, customers and professional athletes who would consult with Adam for his vast knowledge on diet and what made Whole Foods so special. Adam is once again living in SW Houston with his family, in his 30s and owner of his own business. The passion to get behind the mic again to talk about the wild wild world of sports and the opportunity to work with the greatest radio team in Htown at 1560am The Game, has driven him to team up with Ish once again to bring you… The Houston Sports Rapp, crack open a cold one, we got a story or two to tell!
Sportsradio 610am on Sundays at 6. It's called the Sunday block party. http://www.sportsradio610.com/pages/1623739.php?
Good luck with your new show! Will it be streaming live from the World wide intraweb? is Ish going to join Clutchfans? Isn't he the dude from Lower Life Form? The drummer from that band is a good dude and a huge Rockets fan.
it doesnt say anyhting about the intergration of music how do they intergrate music within the framework of the show?
not my show i just seen the info on the 1560 site this am i have seen ish on clutchfans before and yes the dude from lowerlife form
I only listen to it once and a while. Once and a while they have local artist around town come in and talk sports. I believe Scarface was on that one time I was listening, not sure.
brotha ishtar => ish we will gladly welcome clutchfans into the show. As for answer to 610's Sunday show....not so much. We have a live DJ, which is almost unheard of in AM radio....for a number of reasons (sound quality mostly), but we use it as a backdrop mostly. As KG mentioned, it was our first show last week, and it went fairly well. I posted the link to the last segment on sneakers of podcast @ http://houstonsportsrapp.podbean.com. We def want to encourage listener participation as much as possible, so we hope atleast a few of you will be active on the phones. We plan to do a major segemt on the Rox and the future plans for the team this week. You can hit us up at www.myspace.com/houstonsportsrapp I currently have a blog on the Rox, and will update it this week sometime. Check it out. And yes, Eggy (our drummer) is good folks!
1560 at night? I can barely pick it up in the day time and at 10pm? Who is going to sit at home and stream on the computer. If 1560 can get a decent signal it would be so much better.
just want to give this a bump, i missed the show last week, dont have plans tonight so i should be home, if not i will stream some of it from my phone and maybe give yall a call
Yo, once again, I'd like to extend the invite to Clutchfans to get in on the Rox convo on our show. We love to talk Rockets, and obviously this is the home to the best fans in the city, so yall get in on the phone lines. We also podcast the show, so when you get in on the phones, you'll also be on the podcast. Like week we had a special insider on and had a real nice convo on T-Mac and what he's like in the locker room and on the bench. I know you guys are passionate, so come on in and lets stir it up. Here is our podcast page. Unfortunately because of our current limitations with the host site, we can only upload parts of the entire show. K mf G got in on this one and brought some Cavs/Magic talk. Please support folks, we are trying to grow this thing grassroots style. http://houstonsportsrapp.podbean.com http://www.myspace.com/houstonsportsrapp thanks, Ish. <div style="text-align:center;"><img src="http://www.lowerlifeform.com/Logos/Sports_Rapp/Sports-Rapp-Logo-2.png" />
