I heard Charlie and Rich this evening. They didn't really say what was going down but it didn't sound like personality changes, but who knows. I wonder if Barron will have something soon?
The last thing we need is "guy radio." I tune into sports radio for (gasp) sports. If they go back to guy radio, I will have to find something else to listen to when I am in transit between the office and the courthouse every day.
whatever changes they make, I hope cutting down the 10 min commerical breaks is one of the changes.. more often than not I will change the station and never return when they headed into one of their neverending breaks
If they get rid of John and Lance I'm really gonna be pissed. Those guys are great and make my drive to work almost enjoyable. Hopefully they are just getting rid of Jeremy and/or Marc V's show.
I'm most interested in Rich and Charlie staying. I'd like to see them move up and kick Dan Patrick off (I HATE that show), but I don't care what they do as long as they stick. I don't really care much for John and Lance, but they are not bad. I just don't really like it that much. It's more "guy talk" than the other shows. The other guys, I don't really mind shaking things up I guess, but I REALLY hope they don't go to more national programming, because on the whole, it sucks, IMO. BTW, props for Rich talking about it semi-openly today. He didn't specify anything, but he didn't pull any punches about it going down, or his take on it (which seemed to be fairly negative).
Let me preface by saying I have no knowledge of anything...... In my opinion I think 610's lineup should be something along the lines of this: 5am- 6am 610 SportsCenter with Jeremy Foster (Basically SportsCenter on radio with expanded highlights, game recaps, 610 interviews from the day before, and maybe some expanded Business & Local News as well) 6am- 10am John & Lance- Best Morning Show 610 has ever had as a sports format. (Anyone remember the days of Ed Fowler & Mike Edmonds? or Russ Small butting in?) 10am- Noon Marc Vandemeer with a full co-host, not someone who's also doing the 610 SportsCenters Noon- 3pm Dan Patrick on ESPN Radio (all 3 hours LIVE), with 610 SportsCenters during the Show at 01, 20, & 40 past the hour 3pm- 7pm Rich & Charlie (they move back to their old timeslot) 7pm- Midnight An evening show with someone young and energetic. Midnight- 5am Something new for Houston in general, a local overnight show. The show should have sports as the number 1 topic, with some general (but not political) talk thrown in since its the overnight shift. The Outdoors Show could still take the 4-5am hour its few times during the week. Weekends Keep their current lineup with local sports shows added from at least Noon- 6pm, if not later. ------------------- Last time I was in Houston and heard 610, I counted an average of 15 minutes of commercials per hour. Rome has been fading. His best years in radio were 1998- 2000, and if 610 was to "change their image" without nuking the format I bet Rome is gone.
In my opinion, the show should go like this: 5 a.m.-6 a.m.- The Marc Vanderbeek show. This is where he belongs. 6-10-John and Lance are good enough for a morning sports talk show. Leave 'em there. 10-11- Fatty makes an ass out of Vanderbeek show: This is where I humiliate this r****d know-nothing sportsless wonder back to Miami. I give the show 2-3 weeks, tops. 11-2 Rome. While the show has gotten a tad stale, it's no better than Patrick's. And during the mid-day, local talent is stupid. 2-4-Patrick. I've got no problem with either of the midday shows. 4-7, with all due respect to Palillo, I always enjoyed the chemistry with Lord and Kenny Hand more. Sorry, naysayers. 7-10-: No question, the most idiotic thing this station ever did was not realize the chemistry with Matt and Jeremy. By themselves, they're both just eh, but put those two together and you've got something Reeses is jealous of. 10-5, who gives a crap, honestly. Just my two cents. (on second thought..... make Vanderbeek work then, too.)
I've been wondering if the already have started pumping out a stronger signal because I've been able to get a fairly decent signal here in Austin where a couple of months ago it was non-existent.
Rome is not going anywhere. I', sorry I wasn't on top of this thread but I was moving from the country back to the city yesterday. Once upon a time I could have spilled the beans to you guys but now cc.net (I don't care that it changed to clutchfans...it'll always be ClutchCity to me...) is an industry source. The Rockets, The tv stations, us, Astros, Texans, everyone keeps an eye on this board. That being said I kinda like my job so I have to shut up. Your comments are welcomed, though. Especially the line up suggestions. Don't worry everyone, it'll be painless.
Just dont bring back that loser who talked about how much he hated Notre Dame and the Cowboys. While I agreed with him, his show sucked.
Here is what needs to happen: 6-10am - The Howard Stern Show (aren't they owned by the same company?) Let's face it, John and Lance can't compete with all of the FM morning drive time shows in terms of ratings (from what I've read in the paper). The ONLY change that could make a dent would be to bring Stern to H-town. It needs to happen. 10-11am - The Mark V and Matt J Comedy Hour 11-2pm - The Jim Rome Show 2-6pm - Rich and Charlie 6-10pm - John and Lance - They have an edge that would work well at night. I'm sure they would appreciate the sleep, too.
Just get a different user name and drop us some hints. Ugh, I hated Kenny Hand. A nice guy but very boring. He always talked about crap I didn't care about like high school sports or UH football/athletics. He also never had anything bad to say about anybody, which is nice, but it never stired up any interesting conversations on his show.
I wish that SR610 offered a streaming broadcast. I'd be happy to pay a (small) monthly fee for that. As for the current lineup, I think it's fine. Well, except for the DP show.
Ken Silverstein. that guy had a local show in Houston back in the day. Then he resurfaced nationally in Rome's spot right before Rome moved into Houston. The last I heard him, he was SportingNews Network's on site reporters at the games. You know like Jeremy's infamous "is this the tape room" job. He really fell off.
