The CBA states that a guy on a one year deal that will have Bird rights at the end of their contract cannot be traded. But a new wrinkle was added into the current CBA that says that he can be traded, if he decides to waive his Bird rights. So it is possible to trade Barry, but he effectively has a no-trade clause.

    Jeff Van Gundy

(on what the Bogans move means for Derek Anderson)
“Derek and I had a meeting yesterday that was scheduled before he said he was asking for a meeting. Since we already had a meeting scheduled, I found it interesting that he we asking for a meeting. He was brought in here to help a good team make a move up, and we certainly aren’t in the same position as we were at the start of the year. He’s missed 29 straight games since Dec. 14 and not really been on the practice floor. Since I knew we would be trading for Keith (Bogans), I thought it would be the right time to get together and see how we would move forward. We both came to the conclusion that it would be best if we tried to find another team for him. That’s what we’re going to try to do.”

(on why they reached that decision with Anderson and Jon Barry’s status)
“It benefits us because we get out of the second year of his contract and we have more roster flexibility going forward, and frankly, this is no knock on him, but what you don’t want to do is surround McGrady, who’s had some health issues; we need to get bigger and a little more durable back there. We got into a situation this year where the two guys we had to protect McGrady fell by the wayside. I think it will be good for him. He would be best served on a very good team because he’s a very, very bright player and he will be able to help somebody, certainly. As far as Barry, he’s played in five games and played 29 minutes since Nov. 25, and he said he was healthy before back in January and he got hurt again. He likes to talk, but he knows where he stands because I’ve met with him a few times.”

    (more on Anderson’s situation)
“I’m just saying it’s in both of our interests right now for him to be someplace else. For him, it gives him a chance to play more than he’ll play here and also to get with a team with a better record and also try to establish his contract for next year. For us it gives us flexibility not to have the second year of his contract and Keith Bogans is a restricted free agent – we can see how that works out for us the rest of the year, and then we have right of first refusal. Derek was a true pro while he was here; he’s a great guy, he’s smart as heck and he’ll be a great addition to some other team.”

Injury plagued guy who hasn't done anything in yrs. Get anything for him and add a bigger wing player. Derek was a bad choice like Stro. Stro,Anderson and Wesley and a pick, for Pierce.

i think yall need to chill and get off his case a bit...we dont know that he's crying and trying to bail, is it so far-fetched that this was truly a mutual agreement to move on? i mean the guy has been in jvg's doghouse and now we have his replacement, what can he really do now?

i felt like he worked hard for us while he was playing, i mean jvg was the one who scouted him and thought he could bring something to the table, but he wasnt the player he used to be...o well, let the guy move on

hopefully his biggest contribution to the team will be his trade return, but im not gonna bash the guy, just wish him the best...

This is a blessing in disguise. Armstrong is old and soft, and the Rockets are already too old and too soft -- we desperately need players who are younger and have a bit of attitude or a mean streak.

    D'OH! Anderson.

But if Armstrong -- whoever he is -- were on the Rockets, he'd no doubt be old and soft, too. ;)

Derek sacrificied more money to be with this team. Anderson once said "I would rather make 1 million and win (Rockets) ..than 2 million and lose (Lakers)." Now he's getting treated like this.?! Come On. Activate him. The DA is more valuable than Rybo, Mooch, Chuck Hayes, DM, Keith Bogans; and also a good midrange shooter. I have always like Anderson, even though he gets dissed so much. KEEPKeep the DA

I know i'm going to be in the minority on this, but I don't care. Unless he would be part of a bigger trade that could actually help us there's no sense in trading him. Sure, he's an injury plagued underachiever but the fact of the matter is he can still help us. We need a player like him coming off the bench. I know he hasn't show it much but he actually does have the ability to create his own shot, unlike just about every other guard on our team. He's one of those guys that do a lot of things well--score, rebound, pass.

He's making practically nothing, I don't want to see us move him for a Ryan Bowen-level player, just for the sake of moving him. This negative publicity hurts but its entirely possible to sweep this all under the rug and pretend like it didn't happen. Unless DA is a piece involved in a bigger trade, keep him.

they will try to find a winning team who will take him. my guess is we get nothing back. IOW, we get garbage who will be cut which will fre eup a roster spot for JLIII.

If the Wolves get a 2nd rounder for Nikoloz Tskitishvili and the Raptors get 2 2nd rounders for Aaron Williams, I would think the Rockets could get a little more.

Who's making the decisions to sign or trade for these guys ? Oh yeah ... I forgot.

EFF-CD ... he's the one that needs to go. Poor (& I do mean POOR) drafts, poor signings, poor record. The one guy he got, the owner told him to go get.

EFF-CD Why does he even still have a job as a NBA GM? Seriously?

& LAUGH OUT LOUD at the people here who were afraid to give up avg. Luther Head &/Or avg. Stomile Swift for superstar Ron Artest, head case or not. Look what he's doing!

Yeah, we're so much better for it in the long run.

With people like you in charge, we'll never win a playoff game, let alone get to another one.

Stomile, Stromile .. I don't even care what his name is. He'll be the next guy that wants out.

    He sucks.

I agree 100%! This is starting to resemble a death march. Guys are jumping of the ship left and right because the ship is sinking. Can you imagine the morale of the guys who are still part of the Rockets? They can see the axe coming, the only question is who's going to get it. The Rockets front office needs a complete overhaul starting with JVG and CD because they're responsible for this mess of a team. I don't think JVG is going to make it to even see the end of this season. JVG can keep pointing the figure and saying this team will not work it’s broken, but sooner or later the team that will not work is your own.

I've been skimming the thread, and are these quotes for real??

Bizarre. What he said about Barry was bizarre as well... the way he said it, more than the gist of it, if you know what I mean.
