Lets see: Nolan Ryan ends his career with the Rangers. Earl Campbell ends his career with the Saints. Hakeem Olajuwon ends his career with Toronto? Looks to me like 3 of Houston's most beloved icons (and my 3 favorite Houston players of all time) went out with different teams. How can this be? Is God sending us a message? ------------------ I stole your money and I did your daughter at Texas A&M University [This message has been edited by Drewdog (edited July 20, 2001).]
And they all wore #34. I always found that interesting. ------------------ It looks like a veteran can Be had.
if hakeem comes back with another team, I hope we won't boo. and I hope we won't cheer, either. I hope it's. . . dead. . . quiet. ------------------ houston rockets = 2 utah jazz = 0
5 years from now, no one will care where Hakeem finished his career. Everyone will consider him a Rocket. ------------------ It was the time of the preacher, in the year of '01 Now the preachin' is over, and the lessons begun . . .
We should not mortgage the teams future to ensure Hakeem retires a Rocket. I can understand his frustration with being offerred less than Fato. The Rockets are paying twice for signing a bad deal for Fato. The team must move forward and start working on the next championship squad. Hakeem back for another 2 years at $10 mil is not wise, especially when we will NOT win the championship (which, should be our goal to build on). In addition, I would not sign Mo Taylor to the maximum, due to the fact that Eddie will be ready the 4 spot in 2 or 3 years. Also, I would let Shandon go to the Spurs, I prefer Terrence Morris because of size versus Shandon and his ability to run the floor. Let's cut the strings quickly, the following team makeup will get us a lot farther than bringing Dream back and bankrupting the future. By the way, I would love a sign and trade for Keon Clark, let's get something out of the deal with Toronto Mo Taylor (not a maximum deal) Marc Jackson Shandon (if the contract is cap friendly) Cuttino Steve Bench Eddie Terrence Walt (Is his contract up next season?) Bull Moochie Langhi Collier ------------------ Let go and let GOD!
True. Does Anyone remember Joe Namath as a Ram? ------------------ "If you don't understand it, don't try to understand it." -Carl Everett
I don't think Dream is betraying the Rockets or the fans. If he thinks he has more than a year left and wants to finish his career elsewhere so be it. I also don't think he should be booed when he comes back. It's not like he's calling a teammate an ugly, fat butt and forcing the Rockets to trade him for below market value. He is a free agent and can do what he wants. I'll respect the Rockets if they don't pay him a higher, multi year contract, and I'll respect Dream for all he did as a Rocket and for being one of the best damn players of all time. ------------------
Just like Earl was terrible with the Saints...well not his fault he was run into the ground by the Oilers. That tends to shorten even the greatest of players careers. Nolan on the other hand was a complete embarrasment for Astros management, seeing how he had soooo much left to give. ------------------ In the end there will be no judges...only witnesses to my greatness.
Just an FYI to you guys. I've been hopping around Usenet reading some newsgroups and came across the following in reference to this thread and the bbs from a Toronto newsgroup. Consider yourselves admired : The discussion board they're talking about is the ClutchCity.net BBS. The fans they're talking about are you knuckleheads. This site truly is a great example of how an orderly (most of the time) and well-thought-out design as well as great posters can cause admiration in rivals. Congrats to us. ------------------ "I'll tell you this, the older I get, the less I trust people. It's true. It's damn true." -- gr8-1 going through some growing pains. That was probably Azim da Dream that posted that ------------------ "For there is nothing either good or bad, thinking makes it so." - William Shakespeare (1564-1616), Hamlet
Hakeem will always be a Rocket and remembered as a Rocket who decided he was bored and wanted to try something else basketball related...might not be set in stone now, but bye Dream, you will always be... ------------------ Rarely is the question asked: Guns kill squirrels than REDRUM to fools across the nation?
It will be OK. You have to accept it first. I think the next step is anger. ------------------ Fuggetabout it
If he leaves over Money then he will be hearing boo's from me. That is a punk ass way to go. I am with you Red. I am a Rockets fan first, Hakeem second. ------------------ Reporter asks "How close were you to the victim?" Shorty says,"Real close until the roofies wore off. Then she woke up talking about pressing charges, so I took my tongue out of her ass and left." Shorty - Marlon Wayans "Scary Movie" Go Rockets!!! SS
I'm sure CD & Co. will have counter offer! ------------------ Rudy T. will find and fulfill Rockets destiny.
It was being discussed on the radio the other day that Mo could be signed for the exception, Mooche and Anderson could be signed as early birds and Dream could still get a David Robinson type of contract but Maybe Les did not want to do this because of the luxery tax. Maybe a capoligist can verify if this is a possible scenario or not. ------------------
This is off the topic from Hakeem, but what will it be like to see Jordan if he comes back in a Wizards uniform? Will Chicago boo! I doubt it. I will not boo Hakeem, because he's done way too much for the rockets and he'll always be our guy. He won't leave just for the money. If he leaves for a couple of million more, it's because Toronto is offering more as far as playing time and respect for what he still has to offer. The Rockets are more worried about keeping their legend and the backlash that will be felt from their fans. No matter what, the Rockets will have to make it look like they gave it their best shot, but Hakeem chose to go another way. If Hakeem doesn't feel like he will get the right minutes with us, he should go. I don't blame him one bit. He doesn't have to be some trophy that the Rockets carry around. He wants to work. I'm already getting used to the idea of Hakeem in another uniform. I'll root for him and the Rockets. When Hakeem comes back to play against us, you'll hear the crowd go crazy for him and it'll be moving enough to bring a tear to your eye. Houston loves Hakeem and he'll always be a Rocket no matter where he plays. No big deal. As long as he keeps doing his grocery shopping here in Houston. I'm sure that Whole Foods will have a job open for him when he actually retires from basketball. ------------------
I am dissapointed by how this has worked out, obviously, but I am physically incapable of booing Hakeem. I wish people would lose the pro wrestling/Jerry Springer mentality. There are no good guys, or bad guys in this situation (as many on the BBS have pointed out). There is a point where the Rockets have to look out for their future, however. Their loyalty to Hakeem was demonstrated when they didn't trade him to Toronto in the first place. -Elvis! ------------------
I'll really hate to see him in another jersey, but I won't boo him. ------------------ I have seen much of the rest of the web. It is brutal and cruel and dark. CC.net is the light.
