Interesting. Thanks for posting this. The info is more or less consistent with what Jonathan Feigen posted after the Howard trade went down.

Seems Morey wants Dwight, but would rather not have Dwight than give up too much for him-- and get stuck in the same situation that Orlando was in (have Dwight Howard, but nothing left to build around him).

As far as Brockman, Forbes, etc. go, they are just contract fillers to make the trade work salary-wise. Each of these guys have smallish expiring deals.

As Amick said, the Rockets said they were offering a selection of 1 or 2 among Patterson, Morris and the rookies.

If this is what he was offering, how did Morey feel that the Rockets were even close to getting Howard?

To me, the bolded part is the key phrase. My suspicion is that the package Amick describes involved a scenario where the Rockets were a third-team facilitator receiving Andrew Bynum, because the Magic simply weren't serious about sending Howard to Houston because of external factors.

The part about "only" Lamb being offered makes perfect sense and jives with the reports from Feigen. That is, for Howard, the Rockets were willing to give the Toronto/Dallas picks (and potentially a third), Martin, one A-list prospect (Lamb), one B-list prospect (Morris/Patterson) and then filler.

In other words, a Dwight deal was on the table involving Martin, Lamb, multiple draft picks and more. Compare that to what Orlando got. Daryl Morey didn't lowball... the Magic just weren't willing to send Howard here. The only "lowball" deal involved Bynum, who it seems the Rockets just weren't that interested in.

Consider Sam Amick's source: It is most likely the Magic front office trying to justify why they took the Afflalo deal.

That junk package was for Bynum, not for Howard. The article makes it clear that Lamb was very much a part of talks before the Lakers were involved (i.e., when the Rockets would've received Dwight).

Considering that a significant number of ClutchFans' resident geniuses were adamant that Morey should only offer the Magic Martin + trash because we apparent held all the cards and were only bidding against ourselves, I would hope that there won't be too many people upset about this revelation.

glad that they didn't offer the bank for him. Howard would have left anyway after the season.

Lamb + Lowry Pick + Dallas pick + Martin's contract

    for

Howard + Big Baby or Duhon + other contracts

is a way better deal for the Magic than what they got, notwithstanding NBA STUD AARON AFFALO!!!!

Actually, even take Lamb out and it's arguably better than what they got for where they are, notwithstanding NBA STUD AARON AFFALO!!!!

Only 2 first rounders? Better 1st rounders than the ones they got, and probably received much sooner.

Even that terrible Houston deal doesn't really seem worse than what they actually got.

Yup. All this article does is confirm the obvious. The Brockman/Morris/Forbes talk (and no Lamb) was in regards to Bynum, NOT DWIGHT, people.

This article is somewhat confusing. So is what Houston was likely offering the below:

    Kevin Martin
At least one of, but potentially two of, Morris, Patterson, Jones, DMo, White
    Toronto Pick
    Dallas Pick
Another pick (it's funny how the article says they were only offering 2 picks, but a 3rd was available to get the deal done. Um, that means they were offering 3 picks, not 2).

^ that's a pretty decent haul. It could have effectively been KMart, DMo, Jones, 1 lotto pick (Toronto), 1 semi-decent mid round pick, and a 3rd pick tbd (but likely at least semi-decent).

To me, that's not "much" lower than reported.

The exclusion of Lamb might be a surprise, but sometimes you've got to exclude what you've got to exclude.

TOR pick + Kmart alone is better than what Orlando got. Add Morris + taking on bad contracts + probably a rookie and the comparison becomes laughable.

As many of us knew, there was no way Dwight was ending up in Houston.
