As far as putting this in an older thread, I thought that all new stories were worth a new thread, if they haven't been posted before and if they're from legit sources. I think most people wouldn't see this article if it was just attached at the bottom of an old thread, which would defeat the purpose of posting it as news. If I'm wrong, feel free to lock or merge this thread, and I'll know better next time. But my feeling is that this story is worth a thread.
Our PG job gotta be the easiest for williams for league minimum. Bring the ball up, pass it to Tmac, park outside, wait for the dish. Occasionally he can penetrate if defense is laxing on him. Defensively just keep his feet moving, try keeping his man in front of him, that's it. 10 MPG.
At this point Moochie is a better player than Jason Williams. It's the truth and it hurts (if you are Jay).
Let's sign this guy and rid our selves of CW and Moochie. I think he can come back and play 5 - 10min a game.
Jay Williams is a biig piece to this puzzle. He's the same age as our frontcourt, and can turn into a great playmaker. All we need after that is a good 3rd option scorer around the same age as our frontcourt (desmond mason? jamal crawford? bobby simmons? head in a few years?)
I think Jay would work out. Houston is made for him because we need a PG and we don't have a lot of money to offer, but if we can't pick up jay maybe we could go after Rafer Alston of the Raptors they are shopping him around right now.
This would have to be at the mimimum for a 3 year deal. LLE can only last 2 years. But he is only worth the minimum this year. He might be worth alot more next year or the year after. He might prefer a 1 year minimum with player option for 2nd year. if he does well he can opt out and we (or someone else) can use the LLE or MLE so sign him for more. We can also send him to the Austin Toros for playing time and nightly DaDakota updates from your court side seats.
CD isnt going to givie a 3 yr contract to a point guard who is coming off back surgery and who has yet to do anything in the league. especially not when we have two dead logs in moochie and ward colletcting paychecks to sit on the bench. come to think of it, we have 6 freaking point guards on our roster today so the only way we're getting another point guard is if we trade some of our point guards to get another point guard. theres just no way jason williams will be signed by us.
For a while he was training horses. Then I seem to remember that he got back into basketball somehow-- coaching HS probably.
You know, the only problem with the "hey let's sign him to the minimum, it couldn't hurt" is that it applies to pretty much everyone and everything. I mean, it wouldn't really hurt if we signed me to the minimum. Maybe I will get hot and start hitting 3 pointers, despite being only 5-10 with no real basketball skills or athletic ability . Or else I will just ride the pine but be happy to be there and a real clubhouse cheerleader. Either way, it couldn't hurt.
I'm in the boat for "sign the guy and seewhere the chips fall", but my question is is he a playmaker for others? He played the 2 in college and was more of a scoring 1 (Poor Mans Stevie Franchise?) when he came into the L. The only problem I have with signing him to a deal is that he was such a punk in college (take the instant Laettner stepped on the Wildcat, multiply it by 10 and extend it over whole seasons kind of punk). My favorite JWill memory was against NC State and he tried to swipe the ball away from a state player and almost got clocked, Williams ended up running to hide behind Coach K.
