That's my only complaint with Sean and John show. Seems heavy on college sports, which really isn't my thing.
the best rockets talk is on this site. none of the guys on the radio, not even palilo, understand the cba like some of the better posters on this site. none is as good as yourself and others at understanding some of the more advanced statistics. wex is good at basketball they local shows are best for nfl football and palilo imo is a really good baseball guy. sean and john are good at college football
You answered your own question because the last paragraph says it all. Give Adam Clanton some time. Even though I disagree with him a lot on the Rockets, I still like listening. MattJ and Wexler are the dynamic duo when paired up. Maybe 610 will eventually figure this out. But if they brought Wexler to the afternoon, they'd have to finally make a decision on Rich Lord. CP needs a co-host to balance him out.
Maybe CBS can kick Rich Lord out, and he can sign with Clear Channel 790. He was decent with CP, even though this was like a few years ago.
Rich Lord is like a cockroach (those large North American cockroaches), he's survived every lineup change and personnel change at 610. I might be in the minority here, but I sorta like listening to Rich Lord and MattJ. Not for their sports talk, but for the sheer unintended comedy of them bickering about something to each other. It's like Laurel and Hardy. And they're not trying to be funny, it's when they are trying to be serious when I find them hilarious. When they try to be funny is when it gets lame and I have to flip to CP and see if he comes across a caller that he chews out for having a dumb take. Sean/John, I've been trying to give them a chance but just like some others said, I usually hear minutiae details of college football, pro wrestling, or some other stuff that I found uninteresting. Sean seems like a funny dude, but I haven't caught on to their humor the times I briefly tuned in. Astros/Rockets/Texans talk I can get that from any of the sports stations. I don't listen to sports radio anymore for serious sports talk, I get that here. I just want to be entertained for the time being I'm listening. Ok, maybe up to the minute updates every now and then.
Ted and John are just the absolute worst. I dont know who is worse, those two clowns or Rich Lord. The monsters takes are just terrible. It is just bad radio. I have actually swtiched to Scott Van Pelt and Tirico. It is shame that I have gone national until Pallilo, but there is just nothing in the afternoon that is worth listening to locally. Pallilo is the best. Not alot of interviews, but he is real sports talk. It is intelligent with good discussion, save for some idiot callers. He doesnt go entire segments not talking sports. When I listen to sports talk, I want to hear about sports, not random stuff the host wants to talk about. These other stations seem like they are just killing time. BTW- is it me or has Rich Lord just regressed? There was a time when I enjoyed listening to him. He is just so uninformed and his lack of basic knowledge makes my ears bleed. If it were not for MattJ I dont think anyone would listen to 610's drive-time show.
who replaced Andre in the morning with Marc on 610? I have been away at school for most of the year and have not listened to 610 in the morning much lately. Whoever he is I think he sucks
No one has officially replaced Andre...but if you're talking about me, I'm sorry you feel that way LOL
If I haven't made it clear, I'd like to adopt and echo these sentiments. That show is absolutely painful. I know people say they want sports radio hosts to not be fanboys of the local teams...to try to be objective, at least somewhat...but these guys seemingly go the other way. It's as if they actually dislike the local teams. John lost me entirely when he very irresponsibly threw the racist badge on Drayton saying the Astros weren't friendly to Hispanics. If you're willing to do that, it shows me you are even less objective about the Astros than I am...and I'm a homer.
I kinda feel like we're in the fight scene in Anchorman. I wonder if Palillo and Murphy have accounts...
I think I'm the only person here that doesn't hate Lopez/Daluca. They seem to take more calls than anyone (not that that's always a good thing).
I like Sean and John the most when they're not talking about sports. Particularly John and more specifically John on Basketball, but the worst, John on College Football. John is like a fanboy, talking about things most normal humans don't care about. I don't need to hear about the hips of college football players. Especially when there's no college football or nfl draft stuff going on anymore. When they did that best college players of the 90s I wanted to drive my car off a cliff. You would think that during the dog days of Houston summer when the only thing going on is the Astros barely holding on before their post allstar surge, they would thrive with their non sports talk. They need to play that card more often. And they have lately with the Karate Kid interviews and Susanna Hoffs (drool, I can't believe she's 50), and John Krasinski. I don't get the drunken fratboy tag used around here either. Frat guys don't talk about 80s movies where the hero is usually the antithesis of what a frat guy is. The frat guy is usually the bad guy in those movies.
I loved that stuff from John. His passion for College FB, makes me want to put some pads on and hit some one. I would've loved to have played for John. I guess I just really really love me some football. On the other hand, Nuno talks way too much basketball that sometimes I just have to turn the stream off. I like Nuno but its just too much basketball, especially after browsing through the GARM.
I know he never would, especially on a public message board, but I would LOVE to hear an honest account from Matt Jackson about Rich Lord and what he actually brings to the show. Not just on the air but off it. He comes off as lazy on the air. Someone that has been on that station for years and years and doesn't feel he really needs to do any research or keep up with things well to perform his job. He'll just make comments about Springsteen and repeat tired, typically uninformed takes without ever backing it up. I can't tell you how many times I will hear Matt and Rich arguing; Matt will be making good points and backing up his opinion with logic and stats while Rich just spouts opinion and tries to crack lame jokes to take the heat off his weak position. In the end, Lord NEVER admits that his opinion is just plain stupid. It's always, "Well, agree to disagree." I love MattJ, but I can't listen to Lord anymore. Now I either tune into Pallilo or just listen to music on the way home. I sort of like Wexler but only when paired with someone. When he is by himself he comes off as Pallilo light, and I'm not really interested in that. If they paired Matt with Wex again and put them in the afternoon slot, they'd have my dial on 610 every afternoon on the way home. Those guys were gold together. And I freaking loved it the other day when Matt and Robert were ribbing Rich for saying that Steve Winwood was an all time great rocker, or something to that effect. Rich was seriously getting pissed that Robert wouldn't play some of Winwood's more rocking tunes, instead playing his poppy solo career crap. When Rich told Robert, "You're an a-hole." I was cracking up laughing. Take that b**** down a peg or two, guys.
