610 has MJ, Wex and Clanton they're the only on air guys who I can stomach. The fact that Rich Lord is still on the air pretty much sums up their thinking. 1560 all the way for me. The morning show and up until after the "afternoon delight" is great radio. Sean and John go way overboard at times, (wich sucks because John Harris has mad football knowledge) They've gone full shows without an actual sports take. I've tried but they lose me more often than not.
Totally agree with this, especially the bolded part. Now that Andre is gone, the morning show on 610 is MUCH improved.
I like both Sean and John, but not together. They sound too similar and its too bland. I keep trying them, but I'm not seeing alot of improvement. At some point in time, they will have to either be broken up, or 1560 will need to upgrade all together. the beauty of houston sports radio today is that there are options. If John and Lance are rambling about something boring, 610 is an option. If Sean and John are in full drone, I've never been on the radio before and forget that people are listening mode, there is CP and Matt Jackson. And for all the commercials, there is skipping to all three to fill the space. I'm sure one of them is going to go down soon, and then it will get interesting. I'm assuming that 1560 has the lowest cost of operation and that is a good thing. 610 has the local sports teams, so I'm betting that 790 gets the axe soon. Then, what happens with Palillo? Back to 610? Does he get syndicated and go national? (doubt it). Does he go to 1560 and legitimize their drive home show?
i loved sporting news except for david stein...loved it more back in teh day with arnie spanier....but i cant stand foxsports radio. JT the brick is just plain bad.
Sporting News Radio was once very good IMHO. Arnie Spanier's late night show was as good as it gets. They have been workshopping their weekend programming for months, and I think it sucks. Todd Wright is pretty good late at night, but the rest is crap. David Nuno is light years better than Tim Brando. There is a reason why no major markets air Tim Brando. Even Tim Brando himself admits that he mails in his radio show compared to his other jobs. I work for the competition and I would rather listen to 12 hours of David Nuno than 30 seconds of Sporting News Radio. David Nuno is a talent, with genuine wit and sports insight. Tim Brando is great if you live in Mississippi, Alabama, and other states that don't have pro teams. Not only that, but Sporting News Radio much like their daily publication has as volatile a shelf life as the "New Taste of Coke"
I like how somebody actually called in yesterday to compliment Rich Lord on how well he "handled" the announcement of the Michael Jackson death. It was so bizarre. How else would he have handled it? MICHAEL JACKSON IS DEAD LOL STUPID PEDOPHILE! I guess Rich will take anything he can get.
I tried listening to 1560 for a few days, and couldn't handle the fact that they would go segment after segment without a single take on a sports topic. If I wanted to listen to two guys ramble on and on about some actress, I would watch Ebert and Roper. In my opinion, there are only a few shows worth turning the dial to: Adam Clanton Experience Matt Jackson (I refuse to say Rich Lord) Adam Wexler Charlie Palilo
do you get the Joe McDonnall Experience on SNR in HOuston? I've been looking for his show ever since all the radio stations cleaned house earlier this year and he got the axe from 570 KLAC. He was a local SoCal guy, but I thought his format would work in any market... I am a sports radio junkie
Anyone remember Sporting News Radio's predecessor, One-on-One Sports? Johnny "The Freak" Renshaw, Bob Kemp, Papa Joe and Arnie Spanier were all featured hosts. I really miss Renshaw and Kemp.
yes, that's what i couldn't remember. what was the one even before that that ken silverstein was on? was it one on one, he was on 610 before rome
1560 for me. I know they get off topic, but as Granato would say, "who doesn't". Nobody can touch LZ's knowledge and humor. Dude is the best in the city, hands down. Sean and John in the afternoon are underrated. Their show is really entertaining. I cannot stand Rich Lord, he needs to go. 790 is just terrible. CP gets boring after a while, a one man show doesnt really work anymore.
adam wex and charlie palilo are hands down the most informative sports guys in this town. lance doesn't even out pace the cablinasian on his own station. pendergast is pretty good as far as knowledge. lance is very funny though
The only thing I remember Silverstein from, was Sports Beat on 740, but that was so long ago that I can hardly recall.
