They played from day 1 with the better players, not just mostly scrub minutes...at the end of games.

And they were not playing out of position.

    Not the same thing.

you just repeat the same stock excuses over and over and over again.

As I 've pointed out to you numerous times - the lineup that Spanoulis spent the most time with was during his November/December tryout in the rotation. That lineup was: Head-Battier-Howard-Yao. He was no more effecitve with them than when he was with John Lucas III and Tsakalidis.

Again, as I've pointed out to you numerous times, "playing out of position" is a total ruse on your part. You know full well that Spanouis was not a true full time PG on Pathanaikos, nor was he that on the greek team. It was Diamantidis who had the primary PG duties. At most Spanoulis split time at PG. Though I'd hesitate to say that. I'm not really stuck on labels- i just call them guards.

Further, it's pretty silly of you to assume that since he lacked the magical arbitrary "PG" label while on the floor with Luther Head, this somehow excuses him tossing the ball into the front row. "Playing out of position" is a valid excuse if you are playing an undersized PF at Center and he is getting posted up and outrebounded. I fail to see how being "out of position" (even though he really wasn't) did much to account for Spanoulis' various issues (TO's, bad shooting, bad defense). Tony Parker and Ginobili didn't come out unable to hit the broad side of a barn.

    Blasphemer .
PGs don't need to be able to shoot or throw passes that end up in the hands of their teammates. You can be such an idiot sometimes Sam. ;)

Talking with a spurs fan who takes an interest in this board, and he was wondering what the hottest topic was after the season ended...

I told him it was an 18 page thread on V-span... and how every other thread is discussing V-span.

I also told him some people here think he can be as good as Tony Parker.

Needless to say, he has lost all interest in this board, and he now thinks Rockets fans are bigger idiots than the Mavs fans who root for Dirk as their MVP on a nightly basis.

    That hurt.

And since when have the Spurs fans have become the judge and jury of the basketball community?..

Excuses....WTF ever, those aren't excuses, it is just the truth.

Tmac? Hayes? You know guys that are good on the Rolling portion of the PnR.

    And you would be wrong.

Because the PG controls the play, they have the ball in their hands and look to attack the defense EVERY time down the floor.

    Big difference.....BIG difference.

No, it's not the truth. I just explained to you why it wasn't. Just because you refuse to believe it when you know it's true doesn't mean you're right, it only makes you a liar.

LOL - yeah I can't wait to see the number of excuses you would come up with when Hayes fumbles the ball away - and yeah Tracy sets a lot of picks.
Why? Proof? Evidence? Oh yeah - you have NONE. Spanoulis played SG/Hybrid role in Greece. That's a simple fact. Again the fact that you choose not to believe it is inconsequential other than it renders you into a liar.

And that's what Spanoulis did when he was on the floor with the Rockets - instead he attacked the front row by tossing the ball at their heads, and assaulted the rim with a rain of bricks.

Not a big difference - it's simply the same old bullsh-t you have been peddling all season as you show us the true meaning of "Greek love".

No, it makes you a liar, because you refuse to see the truth. See two can play the hyperbole game....

Yeah, except when those things actually happen and you refuse to see them.

The fact that you refuse to see that the system is different in Greece and it is more of a 2 PG system, makes you the problem.

Yes, Winner written all over it... They made it to the final game fair and square playing great in the clutch times, beating USA, Lithuania, France, Australia...

Yes, they had a bad game in the final--IMO they were still celebrating their win against the US team and couldn't concentrate on the game... Spaniards were missing Gasol and that fact united them even more. If you followed that tournament it was very obvious they even had printed T'shirts "This is for Pay" and stuff. Good for them and congrats, they have fantastic players and not just Pau. But let's not downgrade Spanoulis' team effort and single out a game to make our point, please.

But why overlook their Euroleague stats? Spanoulis had stellar stats last year and he could have contributed to the Rockets... He made 2nd Euroleague as a rookie while Ginobili made first. They were certainly comparable, can't you see that?

Spanoulis' stats in his last Euroleague year (2005-2006):
    27:48 (mpg) 14.5(ppg) 61.7%(2pt) 36.7%(3pt) 77.9%(ft) 2.0 (reb) 3.1(Ast) 1.4 (ST) 2.6(TO) 0.0(BL)

Ginobili's stats in his last Euroleague year (2001-2002):
    28:27(mpg) 15.6(ppg) 51.6%(2pt) 34.0%(3pt) 77.7%(ft) 3.8(reb) 3.0(Ast) 2.5(ST) 2.4(TO) 0.3(BL)

Mind you they both played for title contenders, Spanoulis' Panathinaikos team won the title 10 days ago.

Maybe it's ridiculous because it's new to some of the people around here, for me having followedboth Euro and nba ball, it's a valid comparison.

This is getting very long, sorry got to get back to work...

DaDakota - it's not hyperbole if it's backed by facts. The fact is that Spanoulis DID get to run with the first team. Look it up yourself. Go back and watch the game tapes. You claim to have watched every game twice. Go back and look. He was with the first team in November an December. And he sucked it up. That's a fact. It's proven. It's documented. You're being a sh-thead about ti because you don't want to believe it, which is what makes you a liar.

Ah so you are backpedaling - so then what do you call the system with him and Luther Head? A one PG system? You and your asinine labels. I mean the reason why you fell in love with the guy was because he had his one single solitary shining moment of good shooting vs. the US - that's what you cite to every five seconds, now when he sucks you whine and piss and moan because "shooting isn't his thing". Do you need me to explain why this is inconsistent?

DaDakota - his performance was a substantial cut below anything that Luther or Rafer did by any measure. And Luther or Rafer aren't even all stars. Nash - my god, don't even mention Nash in the same sentence with Spanoulis.

Blah blah blah, you love spanoulis. We know, STFU about it already.

He was up and down, some games good, some bad....it is called maturation and part of being a rookie......if he sucked in every game you would have a point, but he didn't so you don't.

Yawn - I have said it many times, he will get better with playing time and getting comfortable on the court, and under a coach that doesn't yank him at the sign of every single mistake.

    Didn't Nash have 8 turnovers last night....WOW !

V-Span did not get the same opportunities that Rafer and Luther got, heck if Rafer had the stress fracture this year instead of last, the team would have probably been better off.

As for Nash, it is a reference to what can happen when someone believes in a high risk/ high reward player. Not saying Billy = Nash.......

Blah blah blah, you are an arse, EVERYONE knows it STFU and go away.

He did suck in nearly every game, which is why is abominably low 6.something PER was among the very worst in the NBA.

Correction, this is what you started saying after your original, laughable prediction of him being "more NBA ready than Sam Cassell" was proven horribly wrong when he failed his audition.

Nash isn't high risk and never has been. Even before he was an MVP player he was a safe player and a deadly outside shooter. Your comparison sucks ass, as usual, because your greek love overshadows logic. Perhaps you should engage and elderly Greek man to tutor you in the Platonic arts.

Hmmm, I seem to recall JVG praising him after the Washington game, so it was not every game, which is my point, if he played more often he would develop and improve and your precious PER would go up.

No, it is what I have been saying all along, and the Sam Casell argument is old and tired, I still think a 24 year old PG coming out of the Euro leagues is more NBA ready than a college player coming out of the ACC - we ain't gonna agree Sam.

Nash's last 3 seasons he is averaging 3.3/3.5/3.8 turnovers a game, and in this years playoffs 4.4 turnovers a game.

He is a high risk/High reward type of player...one who makes risky passes, and is creative.

Once a team gets used to that style of play and knows to look for those passes, I think the turnovers go down.

Again, not saying V-Span = Nash, but Yao did make that comparison earlier this year himself.

Yes that was his second game - he continued playing and it took a nosedive, culminating in a mediocre effort vs. Utah's benchwarmers in the season's last game.

You still think it, and you're still wrong. 23 year old sam Cassell (his age as a rookie) who playyed at the highest levels of high school, AAU, college, and in summer leagues with NBA players, in the AMERICAN style game - is less prepared to make a transition to the NBA than some Greek guy who has never been to the US, lives with his mom, and barely speaks english, and never played under NBA rules - because he is 24 and not 23?

This was a dumb argument when you made it, and when you were proven wrong it was thoroughly unremarkable because the argument was so inherently stupid.

I see what you're saying, you're not really comparing them, you're merely pointing out how they're similar.

I just happened across some V-Span highlights on YouTube and he really seems like a guy the Rockets could use.

He's an aggressive guard that can take it to the hole and create for his teammates when the rest of the offense bogs down. He plays tough harrassing D and has the speed to keep up with the fast point guards in the WC. Most importantly he plays with energy and gets up and down the court.

Obviously he is still raw in the NBA and has turnovers but most of those turnovers seem to come from that his teammates aren't ready to receive the ball and his aggressive play causes him to force passes. These are problems but they also indicate a strength that the Rox are lacking. The willingness to create and attack. These are also problems that can be solved with more playing time and getting comfortable with his teammates.

The lack of V-Span playing time to me really seems to be due to a personality difference with JVG and also that V-Span's skillset and playing style doesn't fit that well with JVG's offensive plan. I get the feeling that JVG looks at Spanoulis as primarily an outside shooter there to play a two man game with Yao when his skills probably aren't best utilized in that.

I hope that V-Span stays and gets a shot to play some more next season because I think he can really help.

What is it with all you Vspan haters. He doesn't have to Tony Parker to help this team. If you are true Rocket fan than wouldn't you want to see this kid do good. If he turns out to be the flop that you believe him to be than so be it. Lets move on. But It is so obvious the kid has potential just watch the videos. You'll see Vspan do things that Rafer will never be able to do. And of course you can make a smartass remark here but as a Rocket fan don't you want this team to improve. Maybe Vspan will never turn out to be anything more than bench fodder but the kid plays with heart and if he can contribute that would be great for the Rockets.
