Marbury crossed over Yao, and Yao fell on his a** because he couldn't backpedal fast enough.... that was A LOT more embarassing.

"Historically"... interesting word choice, when you are refering to 272 minutes. Clearly, he has no future.

No I'm referring to his less than stellar outside shooting and high turnovers from 3-4 years of playing in Greece, as well as his international numbers - these numbers are all available. Hell read any of the scouting reports - everybody will tell you he was more of a scorer.

Perhaps you should do some more research.

Of course Yao (and the earlier example of Hakeem) are respectively All Star and Hall of Fame caliber players - Spanoulis meanwhile is a second round draft pick who has looked completely hopeless against second string talent.

But anyway the only reason why I mentioned it - and I noted this in the original post - was that Kyle Korver is the only decent player drafted in his spot over the lsast decade. I don't of course need to look at this one embarassing episode to point out that Spanoulis has been unimpressive - there's a whole season of mediocre performances to choose from - with a few exceptions.

China? China sucks with or without Yao. umm... Parker didn't play and V-Span was their fourth leading scorer that game.. His only really good game was against the US. He shot 35% from the field in the WBCs. That isn't that great.

Spanoulis was a part of a team with oustanding point guards, ie Diamantidis and Papaloukas (respective MVPs of the regular season and final four in the Euroleague in the last two years) who were and still are more experienced than him. The success of that team was the result of collective effort of a rotation of 9-10 quality players and not just a couple of them, that's just how Euroball works at that level.[/quote]
Yeah we're talking about the Euroleague. Diamantidis and Papaloukas are great Euroleague players. They would be bench players at best in the NBA.

    35% shooting....

Tony Parker was 19 when he entered the NBA. Parker was scoring 18 a game in France when he was 18. V-Span was 24 when he entered the NBA. Manu was older when he came in too, but he was the Euroleague MVP. V-Span was 2nd team All-Euroleague (Trajan Langdon's done that before. Remember how he turned out).

Yeah a gambling game, but V-Span doesn't exactly look like a great "gamble". I wouldn't even call him a huge gamble, because every team "gambles" in the late part of the second round. There are huge differences between Manu, Okur, and V-Span. Manu has sick hops, incredible body control, and a solid jumper. Okur's a big man that can nail threes. V-Span can't jump that high, isn't extremely quick, and can't shoot.

That's because it's a team game like you said before. These days teams filled with NBA all-star caliber players just don't mix. The US players don't know how to play together. I mean team USA once lost to Puerto Rico! Arroyo was by far there best player. If the Phoenix Suns, even minus Diaw and Barbosa, played in the WBC's they would beat every team by 50 points.

The euroleague is pretty overrated here. A lot of great players have come over to the states, but there usually aren't that many NBA star caliber players that play in the euroleague at the same time. Guys like Lynn Greer and Langdon who just can't cut it in the NBA go over to europe and basketball superstars. Trajan Langdon was first team all-euroleague this year! In the NBA he's a guy that's not gonna get more then 10-15 minutes a night tops.

maybe he just didnt fit in or something. he's old anyways. it's a different game over here, which is why guys like V-Span and Papaloukas can be stars in Europe. Mirsad Turkcan's still a star in the Euroleague. Sconnie Penn and Mike Batiste are studs in the Euroleague and they'd be honored to be the `2th man on a team in the nba.

i agree with that. i'm not trying to insult you I just thought your example kind of sucked, because Kevin Johnson had freaky hops.

anyways v-span was horrendous on d last year whenever he went in.
