After playing little for his 3rd team, two years after being 'given away', a spate of injuries has enabled the immortal Boki to become a passable 8th or 9th man in an NBA rotation. WORD !!
He is doing ok. He is getting his minutes. Last game, he got 4 pts on 1-3 FG and 2-2 FTs in 6 minutes. He scores mostly 4-6 pts a game, sometimes 0 pts, sometimes 20, mostly 4-6 pts/game. They lose alot, but Boki isn't enough to carry the Nets. They need another star, outside of Kidd, Jefferson, and Carter. Boki is what he is, and nobody can ask him to be a major contributor. He looks like he tries hard though, when you watch the game clips. <object width="425" height="350"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/B29TMNP37OY"></param><param name="wmode" value="transparent"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/B29TMNP37OY" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" wmode="transparent" width="425" height="350"></embed></object> <object width="425" height="350"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/B29TMNP37OY"></param><param name="wmode" value="transparent"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/B29TMNP37OY" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" wmode="transparent" width="425" height="350"></embed></object>
He averages 8 pts a game as the Nets sixth man......yes it is not a LOT but his shooting percentages are good and he is providing a good spark off the bench. The Rockets could sure use a 6'9" player off the bench who can score and drive to the hoop, couldn't they?
Maybe, but i think it has more to do with the fact VSpan may have come to the realization that he is the focal point of tension between management and the coach. I dont think JVG wanted him to come over, but management brought him anyway. If the rox go far in the playoffs, JVG will probably remain coach and then VSpan is screwed for good, at best bottom feeder, 5 minute garbage time guy (you know how dogmatic JVG can get). If rox lose in the fisrt round, JVG is probably gone, there will be a roster shakeup, and vspan will still be screwed (most likely will be part of a trade package and ends up like Wang Zhizhi). Right now, I'd forget all about the heart and quitting talk if I were VSPan, and salvage MY career.
Well, the complete lack of any new information or story about this "supposed" meeting etc. probably proves my point that it's just Greek Press stirring up ****... Hopefully it will die down again and Span will be here next year too... I kinda saw that was the case which is why i introduced the translation the way I did... Hope not too many people were left with a worse impression of billy for something that never actually happened.... Still, it made for an interesting discussion
V-Span is a very good player, he is a better shooter than Rafer, he has very good defence, he draws charges, something Rafer has not done this whole season, if he learned to not turnover the ball, he would be a very very good point guard, I see him as a Poor man's tony parker, he can score, and dish, draws charges and always drives in, if he worked hard and continued, when john lucas or rafer get injured, and he shows up, he will get his chance.
Rafer 37.6 FG% 36.8 3pt% 72.2 FT% V-SPAN 34.9 FG% 20.0 3pt% 76.7 FT% Vassilis can lay claim to being a better FT shooter than Rafer, but not a better shooter, at least not yet. I would hope he would realize that he was not ready to play on this level, would dedicate himself to learning and working hard in practice, improve over the summer, and come back next year to challenge for the role of backup PG.
Stats wise you're right... In reality, I'm not convinced. The sample size is too small. As someone else mentioned, Span making his 3 next shots would put him at 37.8% FG.. Making the next 4 out of 5 would put him at 38.2% etc. In my opinion, he IS a better shooter than Rafer but I only say that because I've had the luxury of seeing him play for the last 3 years... I can understand why others would not be convinced... Anyway....I agree that he should learn more and more about the NBA game and practice hard (as EVERY player should). I also hope he decides to stick around for the next season cause I believe he has a lot to offer... An interesting stat I found is regarding shot selection. Span is at sth like 67% jumpers 33% layups/driving. Rafer is at sth like 77% and 23%
Should he earn his time or should he have been playing from Day 1 like you said? You are all over the place DaDa. lol
Dada is saying he should earn his time. What he didn't say was that he should be given the time he has earned. And Rafer and Lucas should not continue to be given time when they aren't earning it.
No, I am not, he automatically should be getting 5 minutes a game from day 1 and he would earn more time as his play gets better. DD
Well, I have spoke with Span at a greek coffee shop here in Houston and while the conversation was very general I get the impression he want's to make it in the NBA. He needs to realize he is on a very good team and despite his age is still a rookie. JVG needs to realize the type of player Billy is and the fact he needs to run point to maximize his potential. Right this second Rafer>Spanoulis At some point in the near future with playing time Spanoulis>Rafer This second Spanoulis>JL3 Also in the future I belive Span>Head just my 2 cents Go Rockets Go Spanoulis
