I highly doubt that JVG ever lied. he probaly told him if you work hard and play solid bal, you'll get ure chance. span was getting some minutes in november and december. granted they werent heavy minutes, but he did'nt take he's chance. he played eraic and was a turnover machine. hence gundy decided he was'nt ready. he got he's chance and did'nt play all that well.
What I'm saying is (and the original poster already stated), their mpg are virtually identical (in fact, Lucas plays FEWER minutes, 7.8 to 8.1). The comparison would only get more slanted in Lucas' favor.
Here you go: JL3(per 40 min) Points - 16.9 Assists - 3.59 TO - 1.54 Rebounds - 4.10 Steals - 1.79 FG% - .408 3PT - .269 Spanoulis(per 40 min) Points - 12.3 Assists - 3.95 TO - 3.95 Rebounds - 3.95 Steals - 1.04 FG% - .349 3PT - .2
I will give you 2 links to figure it out what I mean: http://www.nba.com/playerfile/vassilis_spanoulis http://www.nba.com/playerfile/john_iii_lucas If you can't figure it out, I recommend avoiding all conversations involving statistics.
Judging by these stats and the subsequent extrapolations, Spanoulis is conclusively a better player than anyone on the team not named YaoMac.
O.K. I get it. Im watching the actual games and you are watching statistics on a page on the internet. Now I recommend you look at all the statistics. Since January Vspan has played a total of 13 games....JL3 has played 29. You are right though I should avoid converstations about statistics as it seems people like to cherrypick those that will benefit their argument. But at least thats not as bad as being condenscending.
Spanoulis was ineffective in his minutes. That's why Lucas plays. Cherrypicking? Lucas' numbers are up against Spanoulis' across the board in every single category minus assists. You entered a discussion about Spanoulis v. Lucas' rates and stats per 40 mins. If you think I base my observations on stats alone, you're making a horrifically wrong assumption. Don't get all sour when you're the one who enters an exchange and don't know what's going on.
That's why Lucas plays No I did not enter a discussion about Spanoulis v. Lucas' rates and stats per 40 mins. You stated that Vspan gets more minutes than Lucas when that is not true and I questioned you about it.Then you show me links to show me that Spanoulis avg's more minutes than Lucas? You said so yourself Lucas plays and Vspan does not.Did it bother you that I asked you a question? Asking a question makes me sour?
Kenny Smith recently made some comments concerning V-Span's situation...but he wasn't talking about V-Span directly. The TNT crew was discussing the Knicks bringing up the Kentucky kid, and Kenny was basically saying when a team is making a playoff run no one has the time to really teach a young player what they need to do to be successful. Everyone is focusing on the playoffs. Da Dakota...I know you don't think the Rockets have much of a chance to compete for a title this year but the players and the coaches do. Their focus from day 1 has been about winning now....the Battier trade is an obvious sign of that. While I admit that JVG can be a stubborn ass at times, he clearly seems to give players a shot at minutes and lets them keep it based on their production. If that weren't the case players like Head, Hayes and Bowen would have never seen the court.
All of that is true. And it is also true that the achilles heal of our team is the inefficient play of our point guards. That's been going on all season and has not been rectified, either through trade or player development. So, if making a playoff run and winning a title is really what everybody is after, why hasn't the point guard situation been addressed? Dada's point, and the point that I agree with him on, is that none of our point guards has played good enough to warrant them getting all the minutes and Spanoulis being left out of the mix to the degree that he has. Lucas hasn't played substantially better. You can point to his offensive stats, but he is a leaking sieve defensively, and he clogs up the offense with all his dribbling and shooting. He's a midget Steve Francis without any defense. Rafer has blown hot and cold and colder and colder, and Luther can't do a single thing besides shoot it. He can't defend anybody and he sure can't finish at the rim. There is absolutely no reason, when you look at the broad scope of the point guard play in this team, why VSpan hasn't gotten more minutes during the season to develop his game. Nobody has played that outstanding to warrant giving him so few minutes. He has different strengths and they don't all show up on the stat sheet, see Shane Battier. Making a playoff run??? Very short sighted in light of where we stand right now. We have nary a player that can pick up the slack when one of our big 2 is out of the game and we have no solid third option that can hold their own on the other side of the court. Our playoff run is going to be short. Probably about 12 games or so.
Obviously VSpan has to increase his Assist to Turnover ratio to be gaining more playing time. So what has happened to VSpan this season should not be unexpected even to gasp! VSPAN!
Wrong. My response which you even quoted, which was in response to, and quoted from BEX, What do you think mpg stands for? What do you think the 7.8 and 8.1 represent? I said nothing of their nominal minutes -- which are slanted in favor of Lucas because he's been more productive. Spanoulis started the year ahead of Lucas in the rotation. No, I didn't. I stated VSpan has gotten a few more more minutes per game in the context of a discussion on per 40 minute production, linking to a discussion of why Lucas has been higher in the rotation than Spanoulis. It bothers me that you "asked a question" with no context, which again was Spanoulis' production vis-a-vis Lucas, and the relevant rates. BEX made his original post a couple pages back presumably under the impression that Lucas had better per-game averages because he received more minutes per game, thus thought a per 40 minute comparison would be more applicable. The gap in minutes per game was small and in fact favored Lucas. My post addressed that. You jumped in without said context, declined to read catch up on it, and thus receive such response.
Yes I quoted that.....asking since when does Lucas PLAY FEWER minutes than Vspan. Last I checked JL3 was getting playing time and Billy was not. 7.8 is what JL3 is GETTING and 8.1 is what Billy has GOTTEN. Yes you did. You said JL3 plays fewer minutes than Vspan. You are right and I was wrong. You did not state that Vspan gets more minutes than JL3.You stated the JL3 plays fewer minutes than Vspan. I never declined to catch up, I didnt have to.The only context I needed to ask a question is what you wrote.Look, if I knew that it was your time of the month I would have thought twice about asking you anything about what you wrote.
Man its like lost on some of you guys. The POINT is this to me. WHAT THE FOOK has Rafer done to ensure he has the sole, lock down, PG spot on the squad besides..... suck. Anyone EVER stop to think that He is the LAST place shooter in the league feeding off of Yao and TMac, and how atrocious that is? Anyone EVER stop to think that Rafers TO's are so low, because when TMac is in the game, TMAC handles the rock almost exclusively. Have you guys not seen boneheaded play after boneheaded play for two years out of Rafer? Poor shot selection, inability to defend a lick, and no ability to run a fast break other then to pull up a J that is surely to clang off the rim. The POINT is, a player, NOT just one named VSpan, should of been given time behind a player as totally crappy as Rafer. If VSpan was the only true PG to do it, then so be it. Even more maddening is that You guys cry about Stromile being boneheaded, and having low BBall IQ. Rafer, when in charge (ie when Tmac isnt on the floor) has looked like total poop. He is worthless without TMac on the floor. Why does JVG allow ****ty play, and boneheadedness from some players but not others?
Mmm...he's RAZZLEDAZZLED JVG WITH HIS AND1 MOVES. Behind the back. Clank. Behind the head. CLANK. Behind the hand. CLANKITY-CLANK. ...Other then that though, he has become a servicable starting PG.
He's been better than what we have behind him, point blank and period. It doesn't speak so much to how good Rafer has been, but to how bad the other PGs on this team are. As bad a shooter as Rafer is, he is better than Lucas and Spanoulis. As inept as Rafer is at running the team, Lucas and Spanoulis are worse. Spanoulis might be his equal or even better on defense, but Lucas is worse. The sad fact is, we don't have any PGs on the team that have been able to take time away from Rafer.
