V-SPAN might be the only player I have ever seen whose highlight reel includes turning the ball over and fouling a guy on a fast break.
http://blogs.chron.com/nba/2007/04/tmac_the_back_and_the_time_to.html Feigen answering a VSpan question on his blog:
I dont think so, his conditioning is still not great (he always had a weight problem) and he missed a large part of the season where he didnt play at all cause he was in bad terms with Olympiakos coach Gherson. So I think he'll probably spend one more year in Europe before making the jump over. Noone's really rushing him anyway cause he's still very very young...
I am not on the Vspan and Novak bandwagon. In case of VSpan, I think both sides should have handled matters differently. JVG should have loosened his leash while Vspan should have quietly waited for his turn. He wont improve unless he sees real court time and he wont see real court time until he improves by JVG standards. Its a vicious cycle. Between JVG's ego and Vpsan's impatience, I don't have the answer... Actually, my point was simply that, what this organization says into the offeseason does not necessarily translate into what they do. I don't know if its a case of somewhat conservative approach or just being incompetent compared to what other top teams do.
I was very pleased to see Billy come in before the last 3 minutes of a blowout, and play better (in my opinion) than I've seen him play in a long time. As for JVG not playing the guy, every other time I've seen him, and I was an early Billy Booster, the man has simply sucked. Hard to get mad at Van Gundy in that case. I hope Spanoulis builds on this game, and gets to where he can make some kind of impact when he comes in. We have NO DEPTH at the point.
I think it will happen bbut it will have to be next season, it's too late now. Of course, if Span just proves his haters right and quits on his own chances to make it in this league, then he will have no one to blame but himself.
yeah agent zero put it right... but he only became agent zero after he went to another team. With JVG even next yr vspan would get min
I disagree with nothing. But V-Span plays one way which is full-out. He plays D like a post player. He just doesn't foul, he let's the opposition feel it. And he doesn't "funnel" his man because he just doesn't believe anyone is going to get by him without getting hit. He does fire passes (or at least used to) that end up in TO's (I wonder how JVG would have handled a rookie Bird hitting vets in the head with passes in his first practice to get their attention). I mean there are so many obvious reasons JVG was going to hate this guy. If JVG could really keep his mouth shut I'd have zero problems with the V-Span Year One saga. Billy's not the typical 2nd round Euro-scrub rookie that JVG started dogging in camp, but I've never thought his development wasn't going to be important this season. And when it was obvious V-Span was viewed as pathetic by JVG, and we got no "real" back-up, and our beloved coach (COY candidate) didn't get a contract extension. Well, hmmm... CD knew when to get out, Lindsey will probably get promoted (read re-assigned) and Morey and JVG are going to hash things out in a year where JVG's credibility as a coach will never be higher IMHO. And Les has always been fairly clueless (glad he's happy). The perfect storm.
Oh and I really should have re-read that post before I submitted it. Sometimes you just have to rant with poor grammar. Ugh.
I dont know what exactly is the definition of small ball is. Would Detroit be considered a small ball team when they had Big Ben?
Bitter "Old Man." Again, wow. Work took me away from this thread for a bit. I guess believing the team I've lived and died with since I was a kid, over a young player who some believe to be the Greek basketball Jesus, makes me a "Koolaid" drinker. Right. Fight the good fight Old Man. Or at least keep dropping that good acid. Protect us all from the Rockets conspiracy!
The Greek consul general here has no freaking pull besides maybe getting his coffee comped at some of the cafes... If you think that had ANYTHING to do with V getting some playing time youre nuts.
What? You mean that if I change those stats to be per 40 minutes, his assist to turnover ratio will increase?
Wahhh, Wahh cry me a river. what did he expect? 20 minutes a night as a rookie. he also didnt do himself any fave by publicly dissing Gundy's rotation policy. he's got balls, but not much brains.
Multiply all the numbers by 5. Find another player who averages 12.5 points and 4 turnovers per 40 minutes.
I would hope that his numbers would dramatically improve as he got used to his teamates and the speed of the NBA game. He went through a long period with hardly any turnovers, and then the last game he had one where he stepped out of bounds... I see a lot of improvement, with an occasional bad game thrown in... I understand his frustration, especially if he was lied to, but he should have taken the high road. DD
I personally appreciate any "The Girl's Gotta Have It" reference. But seriously, JVG has said he's changed his mind specfically regarding Bonzi all year. Bonzi has said he's going to be on the playoff roster. JVG inserts V-Span because T-Mac went out??? I'm not saying JVG is confused, but can't you smell confusion coming from somehere? JVG has nothing to really worry about, but there is an odor in the air. I think T-Mac has caught a whiff of something too.
What I"m saying that if you do a fair comparison you'll run JL numbers out to 40 minutes and Vspan's numbers out to 40 minutes. Nothing more nothing less.
