Spike was a big fan of Lin's. My read on the situation is that Spike is going through the five stages of grief: (1) denial (2) anger (3) bargaining (4) depression (5) acceptance He's in stage 2 right now, looking for somebody to blame. I'm not about to rip on Spike; I am actually touched that he feels so strongly about Lin.
Spike Lee, Sun will still rise in the morning, Moon will still be there at night. 3 Stooges + Mickey and Minnie Mouse still running the show in NYC. But all will be okay, because we still love you. (And thank you for not matching!) - From beloved Houston Rockets fans.
Spike Lee needs to stick with Directing and switch teams and become a Brooklyn Nets fan because they are going to be better than the knicks in the long run since they have better ownership!! Go Red Nation!!
Not, not Spike, the other guy talking. I just kept picturing Raphael for some reason. That's why i said weird.
My guess Spike is repeating what he heard from Knicks employees: Since he is one of their most famous season ticket holders, I bet that somebody within the Knicks organization called him up to try and explain what happened, and that explanation most likely excuses the Knicks from blame as much as it can. The contact probably told him something like "If Lin wanted to be a Knick, he would have accepted an offer with less of a 'poison pill' effect" or "Lin went back to the Rockets to ask for the bigger poison pill contract at the urging of his friend Yao; believe me, this is inside info that we know." Likely BS, but may be believable to a fan who is trying to rationalize what happened.
I think when they look back, it will be the fact that Landry Fields took a contract with Toronto that NY wasn't willing to match (but was he really worth it?). My bet is that when Lin lost his best friend on the Knicks, he didn't feel as loyal to the org as he could have. Nice move, Dolan.
I was really expecting something a bit more -- his comments weren't really a big deal. I do think that he's pulling info hoops hype if he thinks Lin and Yao are close friends and Yao talked him into signing with Houston.
I thought at first that Spike Lee _must_ be joking about Yao Ming being involved, but as he keeps talking, and I'm looking at his facial expression and manner, it looks like he's friggin serious. I respect the man's work, but my god, that's some foolish **** out of his mouth.
Spike Lee is a clown. I lost respect for him when he talked about Lin's return to as a Rocket and said "no blood no foul". I think he's going to cheer the loudest when JR foul Lin hard. And yes, I think JR will foul Lin hard in that game.
