Some shots of Optimus, Blackout, Skorponok and Bumblebee...

I'm a little unimpressed and dissapointed. They're too busy, too alien-like, barely resemble their vehicle form and just don't seem to have much of any character. I have to see these in motion to get a better sense of things, but I dunno. Optimus doesn't really look anything like his G1 form...and while I'm fine with having to tweak things, why couldn't they make it look more like the fan designed version of an Optimus clone from awhile back. That looked so badass. This I just don't know.

Looks like Bay will ruin Transformers too.

I miss you more then Michael Bay missed the mark
    When he made Pearl Harbor
I miss you more than that movie missed the point
And that’s an awful lot girl
And now, now you’ve gone away
And all I’m trying to say is
Pearl Harbor sucked, and I miss you

I need you like Ben Affleck needs acting school
He was terrible in that film
I need you like Cuba Gooding needed a bigger part
He’s way better than Ben Affleck
And now all I can think about is your smile
    and that ****ty movie too
Pearl Harbor sucked and I miss you

Why does Michael Bay get to keep on making movies?
    I guess Pearl Harbor sucked
Just a little bit more than I miss you

You have got to be kidding me.

The more I see of this, the more upset and pissed off I get. All the designs so far really look like s**t. Might as well not even call it Transformers anymore if you're gonna stray this far from the source material. Jeez. How could you screw this up.

-the only thing that's keeping me optimistic is that these are concept images...perhaps they'll be tweaked quite a bit. I sure hope so.

this truly upsetting i dont know what they are thinking. I can understand making bumblebee a camaro due to licensing/copyright issues from vw. but this whole alien jet thing for megatron???? i dont see why they couldnt make him a gun again. I figure this movie to be pg-13 at least...hopefully R so they dont need to scale back the violence.... i think they can show a gun unless fears of idiot kids trying to go home and take apart their parents' gun.
seriously its seems every generation of kids gets dumber and dumber when it comes to common sense.

whats sad is that is probably going to be megatron, what there is realistically only 8-9 months left to complete the movie to make the july 4 date i dont think its possible to change the design especially if the cgi has already been started on the character.

It might have something to do with the violence, but I think it has more to do with physics and scale. They want to make the robots seem realistic and its hard to be realistic when you have a 50ft robot turn into a gun. There is just no way to make that seem real.

I don't like the look either, but there is some sort of explanation.

    MINOR SPOILER

Megatron is discovered first and the US military studies him and apparently his technology is responsible for the computer revolution (corny in my opinion). Anyways, as a result, he doesn't go through his earth retrofit and that's why he looks so weird and transforms into an alien jet. The handgun thing is stupid, but he should have been changed to some kind of alien tank or artillary gun/cannon. On the plus side, his story line gives him a reason to hate humans/flesh creatures.

    End Minor Spoiler

What really bugs me is his face, all the decepticons seem to look like robot insects.

Well this looks a little better. If you take a look at the concept artwork and then the model, it does look a little less detailed and busy and more resembling of the vehicle it transforms into. Still don't like the head though.

And I guess the big thing to keep in mind is that this is still really early. I'm fine with taking licenses with the material, changing bumblebee to the camaro, megatron to something other than a gun, Optimus no longer a flat-nosed truck, etc, but just the way their robot forms were being represented in these early stages seemed to alien-like or insect-like.

you dont want to see what they did to starscream either.

seriously bay is making me NOT go see the movie opening night/first show possible with these grotesque models. If they were going to go this off-base with the characters and the film they should have not named it transformers, but something else. As for the physics thing i dont see why it would matter, these robots are alien isnt seeing a car transform into a living creature crazy enough? i mean if we are to believe that surely there must be some other alien techonology at allows them to change size from a gun to robot. Not seeing optimus as a flat nose really upsets me also.

the only good news if you guys havent heard is that sony is re-releasing the original transformers movie on a 2-disc special edition dvd this november and it will have the original widescreen presentation of the film! i am stoked for that i've held off buying the transformers dvd because i knew there was a widescreen version out there. Good thing sony was able to purchase the rights to it (i think it was owned by an aussie company till now). the only widescreen dvd of the original movie out right now was mastered horribly. The colors are very faded and nothing is sharp. Rhino's dvd (released here in the states) did a wonderful job at mastering the FS version of the film.

    SPOILERS

    http://www.scifi.com/scifiwire/index.php?category=0&id=37687

    Transformers Details Revealed

SCI FI Wire got a rare peek at the production of director Michael Bay's upcoming Transformers movie in downtown Los Angeles on Aug. 26, including the first up-close look at the disguised versions of four key Autobots: the chartreuse search-and-rescue vehicle Ratchet, the giant black GMC 4x4 Ironhide, the sleek silver Pontiac Solstice sports car that is Jazz and the muscle-y yellow-and-black Chevy Camaro that is the new Bumblebee—so new that the car in the movie is a prototype for a vehicle that hasn't even gone into production yet. Ironhide had an Autobot logo on his tailgate; Ratchet featured a fire department seal on its doors with the same logo in the design.

In interviews with cast and crew, SCI FI Wire also got a preview of the film and learned a few key spoilers:

•The film will offer background about the origin of the war between the Autobots and Decepticons. The plot will be set in motion when 18-year-old Sam Witwicky (Shia LaBeouf) discovers his grandfather's pair of century-old glasses, improbably laser-etched with a map and information about the location of a key artifact, the "Energon" cube, which he then tries to sell on eBay. The movie will follow five separate storylines, which will all converge with a final battle between the Autobots and Decepticons, starting at Hoover Dam and ending in an American city that looks a lot like Los Angeles.

•The film is seeking permission to be the first production to film the exterior of the Pentagon since the terrorist attacks of Sept. 11, 2001; the movie will also shoot in various cities, including L.A., Chicago, Detroit and Washington.

•The film will feature a top-secret military unit called Sector 7.

•Voice casting of the Transformer robots is being left until later in the production, except for Peter Cullen, who was previously named to reprise his role as Optimus Prime. In particular, producers wouldn't say whether Frank Welker, who voiced Megatron in the 1986 animated Transformers film, would voice the character in the movie.

•The movie will use a mix of computer animation and large-scale puppetry to depict the giant robots. Megatron will appear as a plane, not a giant gun, as he did in early versions of the franchise.

•The film's first full trailer will appear sometime during the holiday season this year.

Overall, director Bay told SCI FI Wire that the movie strives for realism, despite its cartoony origins. "I only wanted to do Transformers if I could do it realistic," Bay said in an interview. "And from what I've seen and what we've done with our digital studies, putting it in real-world stuff, that is lots of effects around that are real effects, that's how we make it realistic." When Bay got the first call from producer Steven Spielberg, he said, "My first thought was, 'Nah, I'm not interested.' And just because I thought, 'OK, how am I going to do a toy movie?' And then I realized, when I went to Hasbro, 'OK, start over and go for [a] realistic alien-invasion-robot movie on Earth.' And so, with that thinking in mind, that's how I went about it."

On a hot Saturday, Bay and his crew shot a scene on a blocked-off street in the heart of downtown L.A. The scene featured the four Autobots, accompanied by military crews led by co-stars Tyrese Gibson and Josh Duhamel, and young stars LaBeouf and Megan Fox, who plays Mikaela, LaBeouf's love interest. In the scene, the commandoes see what they believe to be Air Force jets flying overhead, then realize that the coming flying machines are something else—Decepticons in disguise?—and throw smoke grenades to obscure their positions as dozens of civilians run screaming around them.

Ironhide, the black truck in the lead of the column of Autobots, appears to collide with a delivery truck carrying Furbys (the talking furry animal toys that are also made by Transformers maker Hasbro). The truck is on a gimbal, which allows it to swing up and stand perpendicular to the street, as if knocked on its end. The idea is that the Furbys will be knocked from the truck, in flames, then activate when the Energon cube flies overhead. "We just wanted to have burning Furbys on the ground, you know?" Bay said with a laugh. "We're going to be blowing up a lot of little Furbys." Transformers is currently in production, with an eye to a July 4, 2007, release

Sort of looks like the a robot Predator without the Ricky Williams styled hair.

Too bad Peter Jackson isn't doing this film, he wouldn't have screwed it up so bad.

This scares me. It's an alien-invasion movie with robots and he's thinking it must be realistic and to "start over." Transformers doesn't need to be reimagined. And how realistic can you get. I think the fans could care less how realistic it is as long as they stay faithful to the source material.

This scares me even more. Furby's (forget about some lame pup culture joke that's a few years too late) have no place in a transformers movie.

Just speaking as a movie fanatic and not a transformers geek...which I'm not, I just want a cool as hell robot actioner. Transformers were fine in all their original glory...just make a few modern updates and that's it. I hope I don't get as pissed off w/ this as I did w/ the crap that was Pearl Harbor.

Faos your post has made me nervous, I fear they will make a terrible movie. I do not understand why it is so hard to stick to the original story. Some things are great but the movie of them is terribble(example Garfield, especially Garfield 2  ).

I loved the transformers, they are my entire childhood, Maybe i will just not watch this movie, otherwise i will probably just hate it :(

so blackout is called incinerator now? i always thought of bumblebee as the weakest autobot. he was kinda useless. i liked him anyway.

its kinda funny that no one ever dies in transformer, except the movie of course, just like g.i. joe. the plane blows up and the guy manages to eject just at the last second.
