Oh yeah, I just saw this direct to DVD movie at Blockbuster called, no joke, "Transmorphers". I think I might get it with my free rental this month just to see how bad it is... Anyways, due to all the gaping plotholes and lack of character development in Transformers, I think I'll wait for the Go-Bots movie to come out...
dont the transmorphers is terrible i thought it would be a cheesy b sexploitation transformers rip-off, it wasnt...it just plained sucked
talk about leaps of logic. me asking what specific examples of logical problems you had with the movie = thinking transformers is citizen kane with robots? transformers is far from a great or even a good movie, but it was incredibly entertaining, which is the only thing anybody is saying about this movie. im not picking a fight with you, im just genuinely trying to understand why you cite lack of logic as the thing that prevents the movie from being as enjoyable to you. if you had said something like the action didn't work visually or the pacing i could understand easily, but logic? in an action movie? there's always something in every movie that leaves you wondering 'why didnt....' but it's never prevented me from enjoying a film. i agree with you that it could have been done better, but i can say that about pretty much every movie. to me, the most rational way to rank quality of movie is by genre, because everyone will say something like godfather or citizen kane as the best movie of all time, but who the hell would rather watch those than zoolander or the big lebowski if they wanted to have a good laugh? just know what type of movie you want to watch and gauge that movie accordingly. in my opinion, transformers was just really good for what it was, a popcorn flick. bad boys II would be on the crappier end of popcorn flicks. transformers was a mediocre to poor 'film' in the AFI, film school sense, but it was an immensely entertaining blockbuster that satisfied me more than any movie i've seen this year (knocked up being a VERY close second).
On a serious note ~ without seeing the movie I know exactly what you are talking about. It's like War of the Worlds when highly advanced aliens attack our planet with force fields, giant war machines, etc., but don't have the foresight to think that hey, 'there might be viruses and bacteria on earth that could kill us...we probably should wear spacesuits when we go out for a walk.'
so like while I was at work on 4th of July, I was watching Clerks 2 on my iRiver and totally forgot one of the best lines in the movie it had me flooring
i understand your point but the leaps of logic aren't so terrible that it sucks the fun out of the movie. war of the worlds, for example, is a different beast. it takes itself seriously, so when you look at some of the logic gaps it's a bit more glaring. transformers is just a summer popcorn flick. i don't expect everyone to love it, and if you didn't great, but personally i was highly entertained. it can be improved but they did more with a live-action transformers movie than i thought they could.
Saw it last night. I came in expecting just mindless action, and I got that and more. I hate to say it for a Michael Bay film...but I loved it and would probably see it again. I didn't even really follow the cartoons as a kid. Great stuff.
I left logic out the door before I went and saw it. Enjoyable movie. I got to admit the Autobots look soft compared to the military vehicles of the Decepticons. The only gripes I had were no Wheeljack or Dinobots. Me Grimlock. Me crush Megatron.
Autobots, in the cartoon, always kind of looked soft compared to the Decepticons, at least IMO. The producer had mentioned they might work in the Dinobots for a sequel though
I wonder if Bay will have them hiding behind a 3 foot bush in a park...no one would totally see them.

the decepticons in the cartoon and comics always took on forms of weaponry or espionage. grimlock would only be sweet if he spoke like grimlock and if they got the original voice to do it (if still alive) my favorite lines for grimlock from the cartoon were: Me, Grimlock not scared, Me Grimlock KING! and then when he accidently gets all smart and builds the technobots how he starts saying. I, Grimlock believe ....etc instead of Me, Grimlock. I wish soundwave was in it for the decepticons and on the autobots side I wish hotrod, wheeljack, hound were in it
I was just reading on line that Soundwave was in the original script but he was cutout so he could be done properly in the sequel. They used Frenzy instead, which was closer to what they needed size wise. On a side note Frenzy reminded me more of Ravage than Frenzy
yeah frenzy sort of reminded me of laserbreak and ravage they were more of spies in the cartoon (ravage esp a spy in the comics) and stole data from the autobots, frenzy rarely got air time on the cartoon due to him being a clone in rumble. but they were the only "humanoid" tapes that soundwave had. Another thing was frenzy looked really funky in the movie and spoke incoherently. Spoiler cept at the end when he hits his own head i could have sworn he said oh s*** I hope they do have soundwave in the sequel he was always one of my favorite decepticons and was the first toy I got as a kid
Yeah I could have done without the funky noises Frenzy used as his speech. Think since they held back on Soundwave, they'll do him right in the second part, really hope we get more Starscream next go around, always liked him even though he was whiny as hell. Yo-Yo, you've read the comics right? If so can you give me a brief overview of what happens in the comics, never read them only watched the cartoon and i know a chunk of the story is lifted from the Furman comics from the 80's
yeah not a problem what portion would you want to know that is different from the cartoons? there are quite a few discrepancies and characters not in the cartoon that were in the comics. namely a lot more human interaction in the comics than in the movies. send me an email with your Qs i'll do my best to answer them
