1and2 were great comic book movies.

    3 was utter crap.

I am not excited about a fourth

Tell me about it. Tobey Maguire is passable as Spiderman but they have to get rid of Kirsten Dunst. She is pathetic. Spiderman 3 left a bad taste in everyone's mouth. I'm torn between not letting it end on such a sorry note but also being concerned the franchise is unsalvageable and the next one is doomed to be awful again.

they only control the movie rights to two of them. The parody trailer in tropic thunder is probably the closest we'll see Iron Man and Spider-Man together.

Spider-Man 4 will happen, but this is no indication that it is happening soon or not. This is just a promotion agreement with this NPO and for some reason, they are auctioning the rights (way too early IMO). Companies do movie agreements before the movies come out all the time, but they usually force the licensee to not start their promo until a certain time.

I'll bet money that the main cast is replaced, reason being that they will have to sign for three movies. Durst is too old and ogrish to play MJ again and I hear she was a pain to handle on the set. Tobey is a health liability and I can't see him staying fit and young looking for another 9 years.

My bet is that of all the cast members, JK Simmons has the highest chance of returning.

i'm all for it but i hope they don't try to do too much in it like they did with part 3. One was a great beginning and told the story well. Two was very good as well. Three just had too much going on...very disappointing. I think they tried to cram too much into the trio and i can understand why since that's all that they 'knew' they had the key players locked into (e.g. sam, tobe, etc)

If Sony was going to take a giant dump on the Spider Man franchise, I would have preferred that they skipped it entirely.

being a fan of (500) Days of Summer, I'll give Marc Webb and his vision a chance

While I don't have high hopes for this, I'm a big fan of anything that does not involve Tobey Maguire and/or Kirsten Dunst.

If they don't jack with the mythos, Peter Parker's first love is Gwen Stacey. MJ was later in Spidey's life.

Not sure which is the "official" Spiderman reboot thread. Sorry if misplacing this.

I'm going on a slight limb and suggesting this is tipping towards the Lizard as the villain. Venom (Brock) didn't really have a warm/complex relationship. Original Goblin (Osborne) did, but why kick off your reboot by just rehashing the first film? Unless they do want to go ahead and kill Gwen Stacy like they did in the comics.

Still, I'll put down a dime and say they go with a "new" villain with Conyers/Lizard.
