Exhibit A that I'm a DC guy! You've got to see X2. I think it moved ahead of Superman 2 for my favorite comic book movie. Actually saw it twice in the theater. Kinda reminded me of the Byrne/Claremont era, in fact. I'd be curious to know what you think of it. Hulk, you can skip. Bats, I owe you a long overdue e-mail. Lots going on lately, but mostly I just suck. I'll try to drop a line this weekend.
Pretty good trailer but I think it gave away more than I wanted to know. I will say this about the CGI in movies nowadays-- the one thing I don't think it conveys well is rapid changes in direction, or jerky movements. The dinosaurs in "Jurassic Park" moved with a kind of fluid grace, because they weren't rapidly changing directions, and they looked pretty believable considering that movie's 11 years old now. Compare that to things like Neville Longbottom trying to ride the broom in the first Harry Potter movie, or Anakin Skywalker standing atop that creature in the meadow in Episode II (the first two examples that popped to mind). Those scenes will make you cringe they look so bad. Spider-Man suffers from the same kind of thing. A lot of his movement (even as Peter Parker, jumping from rooftop to rooftop) looks too fake. And while I only saw this trailer full-screen on my monitor as opposed to a movie screen, it looks even worse now than it did in the first movie. I was pleasantly surprised by the first one and therefore am trying to keep my expectations low for this one so as not to be disappointed.
So the trailer gives me the story and the best parts, and now I want to spend 2 hours at the theater? Yeah
i know some people who own the marvel license and will see what else is on their plate. After the success of X-men and spiderman, they bought up a bunch of licenses, which we've seen in the hulk, punisher and now the fantastic four (which theyve been trying to do for 20 years now! and they did in the 80's but they never released it). Someone picked up the ghost rider one a few years back and i think they are working on that one. no avengers. yet. captain america is bought, but i doubt it can be made. and theres a few more but ill ask first. So far i know they will push Xmen as far as they can, possibly making a wolverine solo movie. spiderman will be here for as long as they can push it too.
Batman J., I'm sure you've probably had to explain this before, but what do you have against the first two Batman movies?
Yeah, I had to stop watching it about 2/3 of the way through since I didn't wanna know EVERYTHING that happens. I should've stuck to my "no trailer" policy. I hardly ever allow myself to watch previews for films since most of them give away the entire plot. BTW, am I the only who thinks the story in Spider-Man 2 is almost identical to Superman II? Superhero gives up his powers so he can live a normal life with the woman he loves only to be forced back into action when a new supervillain emerges and threatens the world.
Okay, guys. I'll check out X2 and let you know what I think. Might be a while, but thanks for the suggestions. Oski: Fantastic Four sounds pretty cool. I don't know the director, but I'll stay optimistic. DCKid: The Burton Batman movies were all style and no substance (a problem I often have with Burton). A few major quibbles: Batman looked totally stupid. The fight scenes were awful. He couldn't even turn his head. More importantly though the story of Batman, which is a great, great story, was totally glossed over in favor of cutesy indications. The dialogue sucked in both movies, badly. The movies were more like b****in music videos with beautiful art direction than anything attempting to tell the Batman myth. There were things I liked too, but they were far outweighed by the bad. You gotta understand I waited since I was like five years old for a Batman movie. I didn't need it to be faithful to the comics necessarily, but I did want it to be faithful to the basic mythos, in spirit if not in fact. I did want it to focus on what makes Batman tick. Batman's one of the great literary characters, one of the great, original stories of the last century. Certainly one of the great pop stories. In the Burton films he was an empty suit, and an awkward one at that. He was Adam West with a grimace. I actually liked the third movie better in some ways -- at least it admitted it was joking. If you see the new Batman movie next year, I think you'll see what I mean. It's clearly on the right track in all those ways the Burton ones were on the wrong one.
Wasnt there rumours of a Superman vs Batman movie....or something along those lines? I think some of these comic movies can be pretty lam. I thought Spiderman could have been alot better then it really was. I would like to see these movie stop making a fictional world in which a guys running around dressed as a Bat doesnt seem to weird! The hard part for the movie makers is that....people make up their own minds about who Spiderman or Batman should be. Ive seen alot of people on this forum saying Batman should be a rich playboy type character...but that not how I see him. I see him as more of a tormented soul. Its a tough thing for these movie markers to have to please as many people as possible because the great thing about comic was that for the most part, the story and the character was in the mind of the reader.
NO way, as one of my friends puts it "actors from requiem for a dream, lolita and american beauty came together for this crap"? Now they want to make a sequel? Horrible, oh well, I'm sure Hasbro will love the revenue from licensing the movie.
More than rumors, the project was in heavy development (even had 'em a director hired), but fell apart.
Yes, with Wolfgang Peterson at the helm, but he dropped it for Troy. It's still a possibility somewhere down the line. As for the rich playboy thing, I think you have totally misunderstood. When people say that, they mean that that's the way Bruce Wayne should act. The keyword being "act." It's a front he puts on to throw people off. The new movie will definately capture that.
Yeah I guess. I just think that a guy with that many "problems" wouldnt be the most outgoing person in the world. By the way thanks to both you guys for the info on that movie.
He seems pretty outgoing to me. Infact, he goes out and stays out late every night Seriously though, in one graphic novel, Batman: Year One, there is a part where Gordon is investigating people he suspects as being Batman. One is Harvey Dent, the other Bruce Wayne. When Gordon shows up to Wayne Manor, Bruce is partying with these two women and acting drunk. After Gordon leaves, you find out he was drinking sparkling apple cider or something.
