You must have a girlman tongue if you can taste jacksh1t after spicy food.

Spicy food is a must for me. Anything that isn't a desert must have spice in it. It makes good so much better.

Taste buds are amazing things. I personally find spice to be completely useless all the time... it adds absolutely nothing for me except pain. I find it intriguing that it's different for others... people need spice to be able to taste their food properly.

Cilantro is apparently another polarizing herb. There's a particular chemical in it that, genetically, some can taste and some can't. Those that can't taste it don't mind cilantro at all and usually like it. Those than can taste it cannot stand cilantro's bitterness and horrible taste. I am the latter.

Taste is an interesting thing to me.

I'm a fan of Spicy Sichuan on Bellaire. It might not be the spiciest, but it's definitely up there and the food is pretty authentic.

Relax chief. No need to sick your grandma on me.

I used to have the same mentality as you. Why the hell do people eat food that numbs their tongue???

Well you get used to it and build a tolerance. What was once super spicy to me is rather mild now. So now I need more spice to get my fix.

So my point is, what may burn your tongue and make you not be able to taste jacksh1t, may be tame to others.

    ;)

My signature dish is a spicy Chicken Tikka Masala topped with chopped cilantro. I don't think you'll like it very much :p

Certain food, like peppers, can trigger your body to release endorphins, a natural pain killer. People that eat food hot enough to 'burn your tongue' more than likely have associated that experience with the natural euphoria that often (or can) come with it.
