It was an embarrassing case of favoritism and stubborn unprofessional behavior by the manager. Damn right people complained that the Astros were hijacked in 2023.

He has the potential to be a top of the rotation starter. Not sure I'm ready to go anywhere near ace, but when he's on he can be damn good. He's just not consistent enough yet.

As of now, 150 pitchers have started 10 or more games, 146 that have 50+ innings pitched and 155 have started 6 or more since June 1st.

I think this could be a start to determining who is a starting pitcher and how many there are in MLB.

Step 1 is determing how many SP there are in MLB and who they are.

Count me in the "middle of the rotation" camp for Spencer's future, which is still "a really really good pitcher." MOR in the MLB gets $25M+/year. I'm sure Spencer will be happy with being MOR.

Strider and Gallen certainly don't belong with Skenes and Skubal.

    They have definitely proved themselves.

    Last 5 starts
    0.94 WHIP
    3.19 ERA
43 Ks in only 31 IP (only 20 hits)

    That's a TOR stat line.

Skubal has “proved himself” as well. He’s been in the league like 4 years now.

What MOR guy is making $25M+ a year? And I don’t mean guys who were aces and now have aged.

That’s where we landed on with a more stringent definition of TOR than was given here.

Just this season Jordan Montgomery signed for $25 million. I would call him a MOR.

That’s fair I guess but he definitely isn’t the norm. He went on an insane heater and was a TOR starter for Texas. If you start from when the Yanks dealt him at the deadline in 2022, his ERA was barely above 3 for that 1.5 season span.

He also took a one year deal. The DBacks were willing to take the risk at that price because they hoped he would pitch like a TOR guy. He will never make that much again.

This formula so far has worked well for Hunter/Kikuchi.

Hopefully it works well for Arrighetti as well.

Obviously Maldy taught him how to hit.

I think the pitching staff had a better ERA with Yanier catching than Maldy. Even though Yanier didn't get to catch JV/Framber etc... Thanks Dusty, true we dont know, but I sure would've like to have found out. BTW, I'm not sure Dusty knew either, it's hard to know when you dont play a guy enough to find out.

At least he seems to have gained more consistency.

Arrighetti deep dive starts at about an hour and 10 minutes. Fun episode. Lots of show prep/numbers and then just old school philosophical baseball talk.
