The absolute WORST one, that people misspell ALL THE TIME is using "of" instead of "have." Just thinking about that one makes my blood boil. ....serenity now, serenity now...
I could of done that, but decided against it. We would of traded Francis for Garnett if the T-Wolves were willing to make that deal. MacBeth should of kept the drama to a minimum his first day back here. In all the above cases, the correct word to use is "have."
This game lasts too long. Last one was the mega-tie, wasn't it? I say...if not resolved by Friday pm....go to a shootout!! pistols, at 30 feet .
Thanks. I see now, but wonder if they can be categorized as slang usage. Think they are more in line with "shouda" "woulda" "coulda".
people who use "then" instead of "than" are much worse. the problem is, that consists of about 90% of the population and is now the accepted form of that word. moochie norris is worse then everybody in the nba. george bush got more votes then john kerry. amazingly frustrating. it's to the point that i now instinctively say "then" in my head when i'm reading posts even if the person spelled it "than."
That's another one, good catch. I thought about it many times. I venture to say if we continue b****ing about spelling/misuse blunders, sooner or later somebody will drop the "Spell Check Nazi" bomb.
Well, the problem stems from the contractions should've, could've and would've. The "'ve' sounds like "of" so people screw it up. It's my pet peeve.
The fact that English isn't SJC's first language and he still spells it better than 99% of us is a sad sad thing.
