so what would be the advantage of paying the $147 ticket and the $30 for defensive driving if my insurance still goes up b/c of my ticket?
because even though your insurance goes up, you'll receive a break on the rates because of the defensive driving. They'll most likely offset each other. And if they don't then you'll only be paying a little bit more than you usually do instead of a bunch more than you usually do. These would be good questions for your insurance company and the courthouse.
I wouldnt worry about it unless you plan on returning to that city. Were you in your own car or a rental? I've gotten parking tickets in Cali, NM, NV, AR and CO. and have never bothered to pay them. I have never been contacted by any of those states regarding the tickets. Stick it to the Man!!!
Yeah we were racing my friends M3 which topped off about 150 and we were in a Prosche 996 turbo Gemballa turbos it is a crazy car. Lot of fun but i was the passenger so i had no control but i felt comfortable. It was just crazy when we are keeping up to them in 5th gear and he drops it to 6th and we just go by them.
OK, so I just got back from court and scheduled a court date. This is what my NOTICE TO APPEAR says: "At the trial, the States Attorney will be present along with the officer and any other State's witness. The judge will decide whether or not your case will be tried on that day. You should be prepared to go to trial. If the court is unable to try your case on that day, it will be rescheduled." My question is this: If the officer who issued the ticket doesn't show up, I don't have to pay the ticket, right? What are the chances of this actually happening? Also, what's my best bet at getting the judge to dismiss my ticket? P.S. - I'm a college student, so $147 is a lot!
It sounds like you got a pretrial hearing. When I got that, the city prosecutor took me into his office and asked how I plead. I gave him my side of it, and it was dismissed. My ticket does not necessarily apply to your situation, but basically, that's what a pretrial hearing is. Then again, that was in Brownsville.
I'm about to switch jobs, but currently am a city prosecutor. I'd write to the judge or prosecutor and request a deferred disposition (not adjudication), which will get the ticket taken off your record if you complete a 90 day probation period and pay a fine and court cost. Shouldn't be any problem getting that unless you fall into a category for which deferred isn't an option (for example, any ticket in a construction zone with workers present).
Sounds like a good idea. What's the difference between deferred disposition and deferred adjudication? Also, how much (rough estimate) would the court cost and fine be? FYI, I wasn't in a construction zone or anything, just going 65mph in a 55mph zone on 290 East towards Houston.
Who told u to speed u freaking moron! How could you be so dumb as to get a speeding ticket? Oh and incase i forget to tell you later, ask me what shazeb did in court and you could also try that.
Your dad hoe....now how i come i still have not heard anything from you about this ticket. Thats a woopin when you get home.
i need to take defensive driving for the deferred disposition option...anyone know the cheapest defensive driving i could take?...idrivesafely.com is $40, is there anything cheaper?
I think Golden Corral is $35-40 but you also get a free dinner. There a few places in the Yellow Pages that have it for $25-30 (from what I remember when I got my tickets in Houston).
Any truth to the rumor I've heard that you keep rescheduling like 4-5 times and then finally show hoping the cops doesn't show. If the cop doesn't show then you can contest the ticket and win since he/she is not there?
Sometimes. Depends on the prosecutor's and judge's discretion. You're better off going the first time and hoping the cop doesn't show up instead of rescheduling all those times, because you're just giving the prosecutor ammunition to use if he wants to reschedule himself (because his witness isnt there). If it's a first setting, I always dismiss if the cop doesn't show. Playing the rescheduling game is lame, just pay the ticket or show up and take your chances.
Sorry, I sure don't. No contacts in Humble. I'd be surprised if they approached it differently, though.
Well, I got a 66 in a 40 so my defensive driving option is out the window. I was wondering if the judge will have leniancy with me and allow me to do DD or deffered ajudication anyway.
Ouch, if you'd been going 64 you would have been ok with defensive driving. I'd write in and request deferred. If it's your first ticket there in awhile it's likely they will. Municipal courts are docket-motivated, and it'd be to their benefit for you to plea it out. Rural areas have JPs running their courts and are a little more erratic, imo.
