However, if Kam was in fact insured at the time, wouldn't that ticket be dismissed? It was for me in a similar situation.
I hope I'm not too late...ask for Deferred ajudication, pay the fine, and if you get no tickets for a month, the slate is wiped clean.
Uh, I've never heard of deferred adjudication being that lite. I've only heard it as pay the fine and court costs, take defensive driving, and no tickets for six months (or something like that), and only then is it wiped clean.
I've done it once, and my "probation" lasted 90 days. There wasn't a defensive driving requirement, though.
My 21 year old son is on our policy but his name does not appear on the insurance card. Perhaps Kam's situation is the same. He is insured on the policy but since his name was not on the card the officer gave him a ticket that should easily be dismissed. If this offense gets thrown out via defensive driving or deferred adjudication, there should be no increase in the insurance rates provided Kam is indeed insured on his father's policy. In addition, if this is a first offense, it probably won't affect the insurance either.
bobrek, good point. I would qualify my post with: if my assumption that Kam's father didn't tell the insurance company his son was also a regular driver is true, then....
Judge: How do you plead? Kam: Kam Kam Kam Kam Kam Yao Kam Kam Kam "How long have you been a black quarterback?" Kam Kam Kam Kam Kam Kam Kam Kam Kam Kam Kam Kam Kam Kam Kam Kam Rockets 2 Kam stalker Kam Mavs 0 Kam Kam Kam Kam Kam Kam Stalk this Kam Kam Kam!
What you said was right. That is what my dad is doing. And the racial profiling DWA, I wasn't being serious. I was just trying to be funny. I am not gonna pull no race bull**** out for no reason, cause that is just as racist in itself. I listened to the judge, and she explained it. And about DWA, I was only kidding about that. I was going 15 over also. What happen is, I was going 60 or so on the freeway and left the highway at 55 mphs or something. They clocked me at 55 in a 40. Along the feeders on the Beltway, it's either 45 or 50 mph. Northwest freeway is like 45, or 50 too. Thanks for the info people. You guys are great. I have to go to court one more time to go fix something. I thought the dress code in the court was tight. I actually took out a shirt that i had that was under some dry cleaner plastic and wore it. People were coming in with blue jeans, tennis shoes, and crap like that. If i knew we could come in like that, I would. Actually, i wouldn't. I would probably still hit the slacks and button up shirt. And no, I was not thrown in Jail. And if I can remember that Judge's name, I am going to find her info, and sleep in her bushes.
Where is refman or madmax on this one? I thought you could pay a lawyer like Monks Monks Monks and Herran (not far away, on Bissonnet) some dough and they'd make that ticket go "poof". I wonder why that hasn't come up, yet?
So my parents could take my name off the insurance and save 1500 bucks a year???? Someone please answer me. This is news, damnit!!!
Um, no. You still have to be listed as a driver of the vehicle. All I'm saying is that a person should not get a ticket for driving without proof of liability. That does not mean the insurance would cover a claim made against said insurance if the car is in an accident
I had a friend who took this route and regretted it. The ticket did go away. But, he found that the court played favorites among the lawyers. If the judge liked a particular lawyer, he'd take care of all his clients first and they'd be out of there in 15 minutes. My friend's lawyer apparently wasn't liked and he had to stay at the courthouse all day waiting for his number to be called. When it finally was, it wasn't the automatic thing it was for the lawyers on the inside, though he did get it dismissed after some argumentation. So, the ticket doesn't affect insurance or anything, and no defensive driving, but he had to pay the lawyer what he would have paid the city plus he lost the whole day sitting around in the courthouse.
You'll move to a different state for college, swear to never see your parents again, get into a debilitating accident that will keep you from ever driving again, and your parents will still have to fight like mad to get you off their insurance.
Does anyone know about state troopers? I got pulled over on 290 going 97 in the 65. Since I was over 25 miles over, I know I can't take defensive driving. Do I have any other options? Can I do deferred ajudication?
From what I remember, you have no options if ticketed going 25MPH over the limit. No defensive driving and no deferred adjudication. The tickets stays on your record and you have to pay the fine. Or you can plead not guilty. But if you're going 25 over, that's kind of tough to get out of.
