Battier possibly but leave Head out of any deal. Head is one of the main building blocks of the new Rockets- once the building gets going!!!!!
first, let me thank you for recognizing my intelligence. It's good to be understood for what you are. second, let me say that these types of deals have happened in the past, scottie pippen was one example. but these trades were usually made to dump contracts and some of the incoming players were immediately cut to maintain roster space. In the Rashard instance, it isn't the situation of a contract dump. And the players that you have strewn together, you felt all added value, so for them to see your side they would need to keep all of them. Now I haven't done tons of research, but with only 15 slots - 1 (rashard) + the seventy five players you had going from the rockets to seattle, me thinks that seattle would have to petition the league to get additional roster spots or they would have to cut some of the gold you so generously thrust upon them. Since I'm fairly sure the league would laugh at them for trying to keep 89 players, they would have to cut some of those guys, which would really leave them with crap for Rashard.
First, let me thank you for admitting that you don't know what you're talking about. Seattle is in full rebuilding and cost-cutting mode, so they have a number of minimum wage, fringe players on their roster that they could cut to make room. Sure, someone like Sura would probably get waived, but that wouldn't be a stretch. And the Rasheed Walllace deal had nothing to do with dumping money. Sheed was in the last year of his deal, like Rashard, and had no interest in re-signing with his team, like Rashard. It is very likely that Seattle will lose Rashard this summer and get nothing in return, so I'm sure they're motivated sellers. However, given his free-agent-to-be status, I'm also sure that Seattle won't get a lot of high caliber offers for Rashard because (A) other teams know that Seattle is a motivated seller and (B) other teams are taking a risk that they won't be able to re-sign Rashard in the offseason. However, the exception to (B) is the Rockets, who would probably have no problem re-signing Rashard. I could rattle off several deals where stars have been traded for young players, picks, and junk. But suffice to say, there's nothing odd or crazy about the deal I put forth - indeed, several posters think it's too much to offer Seattle. It's more likely that you're just thinking inside the box - likely whichever Jack-In-The-Box you happen to sling fries at.
Battier and Head are soft? I don't know about that. Softies on the team (IMO): T-Mac, Allston, Novak Battier/Yao/Head/Padgett are nice personalities buy not "Soft" (Yao might be but he's changing)
Hey look, I can take things out of context too! And citing the opinions of several posters who agree with your trade, doesn't make it a valid suggestion. It's a dumb trade idea, because you are way overvaluing our players and undervaluing their current roster. So you've got five players plus a draft pick going out with only one player coming off their books. Lets say for sake of argument, that they are will to cut some players to make this trade happen. Who would it be? Mike Wilks I'll give you, and the 7' greek guy maybe, but then who would befriend V-Span? Ray Allen - not getting cut Nick Collison - not getting cut Desmon Farmer - not getting cut Danny Fortson - not getting cut Mickael Gelabale - not getting cut Andreas Glyniadakis - maybe would be cut Rashard Lewis - would be outgoing in trade Johan Petro - not getting cut Luke Ridnour - not getting cut Mouhamed Sene - not getting cut Robert Swift - not getting cut Earl Watson - not getting cut Chris Wilcox - not getting cut Damien Wilkins - not getting cut Mike Wilks - would be cut I'm not trying to hurt your feelings, just pointing out that the trade idea is no better than one of the legions that has scrub a plus scrub b going out for superstar. If it doesn't work, it doesn't work.
Rashard does not play good team defense, but plays great 1 on 1 defense ( he always gives TMAC hard time). I like Battier too, but Rashard being a legit scoring threat adds more to the team than what Battier brings. Luther is a great three point shooter, and thats it. He cannot defend, nor can he finish a fast break and has no mid range game. His potential ( IF HE EVER REACHES THAT ) is Mike James with bad defense.
This deal would never happen, unless Seattle has a dumb GM... But, if Seattle weer to offer it and we turned it down because adding Luther Head would be too much the Rockets woudl be stupid. Rashard's been putting up over 20 ppg, 5 rpg and nearly 2 apg for 3 straight seasons. Even taking into account the Rockets/JVG stat deflation matrix, Rashard would be a steal for Battier and Head.
The windows of opportunity is three/four years ( with a healthy TMAC). We cannot wait for Head to reach his potential, which I have said in my previous post , is Mike James with bad defense.
When was the last time Battier ever scored 20 points. I would love to have Rashard for Battier but I wouldn't be dealing Luther, guess the deal isn't getting done because if I was Seattle, thats who I would want. I'd laugh in CDs face if he offered Juwan.
I can't believe some of you guys wouldn't do this from the rockets side. rashard lewis is only 27 scores 20 points a game and shoots 40% from three range. and I think some of you guys are overplaying luther's value. on a good team luther's always a backup, he's even a backup on this team. he's a good backup, but he'll never be a starter, not a good enough ball handler to be a starting pg, and two small to be a starting sg.
wtf are some of you people smoking? if seattle was stupid enough to give up rashard for battier, you make that trade ASAP before they change their mind. i have no idea why there' so much battier love on this forum, when the guy is really just a glorified version of ryan bowen. i mean, other than a decent 3 point shot, his hook shot, and the fact that hes marginally less spastic, he plays almost exactly the same as ryan bowen. except bowen could dunk (remember that preseason game where bill worell was having a joygasm saying 'ryan bowen has become a dunking machine'). everyone here thinks battier is some brilliant defender: he isn't. everyone here thinks he brings a magical winning value that we call 'intangibles'; all i see are a couple hustle plays, and far too many instances of him trying to draw offensive fouls which are successful maybe 10% of the time; the rest of the time he just picks up a blocking foul. he's also a pretty weak rebounder. but the point isnt that battier sucks. i like him. he helps this team alot. but some of you have bought into jvg's battier love a little too much. "Battier, he doesn't have issues. If you have issues with Battier, you have issues." right..battier is a role player. rashard lewis is a PLAYER. wake up and smell reality...
man do you even watch basketball? who's overrating him? rashard shoots better than battier, from the field, the 3, and the free throw line. he rebounds better, can actually dribble and create his own shot. he's more aggressive and has a lot more attitude than battier, for all the people complaining about how this team has no attitude. so you've got a guy who puts up 20 and 6 and you're unwilling to trade battier to get him. shane. battier. who's overrated again?
Oh I read it again, I mis-took it as Rasheed Wallace. I was talking about that guy, not Rashard Lewis. If it's Lewis, I don't think Snoics want to give up him for Battier.
why would you trade our best 3 shooter? and not to mention mr everything?? dont get my wrong rashard is great and all, but not at the expense of those two. i would sign him as a FA and ship jho and or rafer out. done deal?
