Nuts. Who's the best alternative out there? I want Jeff Van Gundy. He probably won't take an "associate head coach" or "lead assistant" position, but Morey should at least attempt to talk JVG into it. Throw money at him, and possibly a "wink-wink" deal on taking over from McHale eventually. Maybe bump McHale up to some executive position when his current contract expires. Worth a shot, in my opinion.

The problem with this is that Morey doesn't hold the same disdain for McHale that clutchfans does. He isn't likely to make a wink wink deal for someone to take over for a coach that he isn't interested in getting rid of.

If that's how Morey really thinks about McHale, then of course getting someone like Hollins and Van Gundy is/was never going to happen anyway. He would be looking for someone like Sampson, hopefully better. My assumption is that the way we lost to the Blazers telegraphs the need for a high end defensive coach.

Morey is great at making deals, not so much at dealing with human beings. You can't just throw talent together with a random former great player and thinks its not that important anyway. For an educated man, Morey is really incompetent when it comes to basic common knowledge.
