I'm Chinese so when I go to Dallas to visit my Indian and Chinese friends, we stick out like sore thumbs in the bars. I never get that feeling in Houston but I get it there. I love Houston for its diversity. :)

oopsy. felt even worse. i forgot what the heat index was during the time.

i lived (of course) in the cedar springs area at lemmon ave and knight street. got into a lot of trouble there. is an ok city, but yeah... diversity sucks. i figure i'll eventually get back to atlanta one of these days.

I've never been to Dallas. But if it's even remotely comparable to Houston, then it sucks! Give me NY, LA, Miami over either any day :p

Well of course, and after living in Houston for 24 years, I kind of know Houston. I grew up and played basketball in some of the lower income to lower middle income areas. I worked in the Galleria and Downtown areas. I went to school at UH Central campus. I hung out in areas around S. Shepherd and Westheimer (great area of town). I've lived in Dallas for 7 years now and think I know it somewhat.

That being said, everyone looks for something different, and I doubt any city is perfect. What some may consider trivial may be a hot button for others.

If I spent all of my time in Houston at Cafe Adobe, and thought it was a "great" area here, I'd be disgruntled too.

Of all the places I've been to, California is the place I think I'd love to live. I just hate the earthquakes, fires, etc. The only major issue I have against there is the fact that people aren't as openly friendly as they seem to be in Texas. Nobody really held doors open for anybody, nobody really said "thanks" much - it just seemed like everyone was busy with themselves.

Whoever said that Dallas is full of $35k millionaires is dead on. But then you look at the statistics and much of the people in the burbs of Dallas where the wannabe big houses are come from outside the city/state. So figure that one out... ;) I don't know what the stats are, but I'll see if I can dig them up somewhere.

Wow, I didn't now they blew up the rest of the area leaving Cafe Adobe the only building standing. I'm sorry to hear that. And I did say it was a nice area of town, so I'm not sure how you got "disgruntled" out of it, but you'd have to ignore that to get your wisecrack in, right? Right. :)

Yeah, it happened in 2002 to create larger parking areas for the Adobe Complex. Last I heard, a Carousel and some Bengal Tigers were slated for fall of this year.

Pardon my ignorance on this, but what's a $35k millionaire?

People who only make $35k a year, but spend money like they're millionaires by eating at trendy restaurants, buying expensive clothes, and driving BMWs. They haven't met a credit card they didn't love.
