THEY DID! What a final quarter for Nigeria. Ike Diogu, Al-Farouq and Ade Dagunduro were big time for Nigeria as well as pg Tony Skinn.
Here's what OHMSS posted in the middle of the game about Spanoulis at another forum: Predictably, he has gone insane with the result. (Not hard to figure out what his nick is) http://forums.interbasket.net/showthread.php?19710-Quarterfinals-Greece-vs-Nigeria/page8
if nobody could guard him then how was his shooting % stuck around 40? I'd submit that he should probably hit a higher % of unguarded shots...however, I've seen him shoot so it's not that surprising. His average from the MVP Euroleauge Finals campaign (2 games): 18 points, 40% shooting, 4 assists, 4 TO's, 0 steals, 1.5 rebounds Epic.
Jeez the whining from the dude on there, my goodness. Spanoulis has been beastly but his free throw shooting was very poor today. The Greeks as a whole needed to do better from the line today.
"Michael Jordan would've been the worst player in EuroLeague because of the superior defense, teamwork and more advanced systems"
It's crazy how with the bulk of international players and basketball's overall growth abroad that there's still such a dropoff between the NBA and other leagues.
would be interesting to find out how he would have performed in the NBA. He was never given a chance to develop with JVG and essentially, JVG killed his NBA dream.
If anyone is interested, here is how they selected the 2012 All-Europe Teams: All-Europe 2012 Player of the Year G Vassilis Spanoulis All-Europe 2012 1st Team G Vassilis Spanoulis G Dimitris Diamantidis F Andrei Kirilenko F Erazem Lorbek C Nenad Krstic All-Europe 2012 2nd Team G Bo McCalebb G Juan Carlos Navarro F Rudy Fernandez F Mike Batiste C Jonas Valanciunas All-Europe 2012 Honorable Mention G Milos Teodosic G Henry Domercant F David Hawkins F Viktor Khryapa C David Andersen G Alexey Shved G Zoran Planinic F Sonny Weems F Kostas Papanikolaou F Georgios Printezis Shved was in the 4th team, and he's starting in the NBA. So it's not like these could not be good NBA players in the right circumstances.
Vagina span was a bum when he played here. His TO rate made Steve Francis look like John Stockton. Plus he demanded playing time as a rookie like he was Royce White....
What's so funny? Krstic is still an NBA-caliber center. If he were willing to sign with any NBA team for the league minimum, I guarantee you that several teams would be competing for his services. He's in Europe now more because he WANTS to be ($$$; being closer to home; etc.) than because he can't get a job in the NBA.
Spanoulis not working out in Houston will always be one of my biggest disappointments personally as a Rockets fan. It was awesome to get a countryman on the Rockets and especially one with so much talent. I'll never forget seeing him dominate Tony Parker when Greece played France in the 2005 Eurobasket championship and Parker's glowing comments on Spanoulis' play after the game. Van Gundy never gave him a chance to prove to people that he was an NBA-caliber player, which he most definitely is.
