Wow, VSpan is even better than I imagined! Watching his last 2 games, I am most impressed with his defense. In fact, I would dare say that his on the ball defense may be his best attribute. Before these games, the knock on him seemed to be defense but that should be the Rox last worry about this guy.
I see VSpan as a Rybo 3000. Of course most people will see this as possibly the worst comparrison possible, but let me explain. The year before last, Rybo was getting his fair amount of minutes, and we weren't complaining too much (okay, last year he was bad bad bad for the team. We needed scoring bad, and he was 3 black holes on top of another) mostly because he brought so much energry on both sides of the floor. He and Sura helped give the Rockets an identity. A team that wasn't going to quit, and wasn't going to let another team bully them around. Seeing VSpan play with that type of passion, plus the fact that he has a rounded skill set that Rybo only wishes he could have, makes me believe that he too will help give the Rockets a new identity. Having open looks will also probably increase his averages from overseas... at least we've said that about every player to join the rockets since Tmac and Yao joined and really only Sura and Mike James have seen any improvements in their shooting, but hey, we are overdue on someone benifiting from having two superstar teamates. I guess now that I think about it, Sura is probably a better comparison... but I didn't want to compare him to a player who has had a career of injuries and team changes.
Heh...just typical of Clutchfans. A few hours after Team USA loses it's "Vspan is god, and Battier sucks" all of a sudden.
Just glad this isn't the Chinese team that beat the USA to get to the gold medal game. Can you imagine the the flood of post?
I am just going to assume that this is just really really good sarcasm - it deserves to be on Comedy Central! It was pointed out last season that another Rockets asst. coach was working with Yao on his tape reviews and his spin moves and that guy is still here. Yao is just going to have to find another guy to take him to men's clubs....
Wow, that has to be the oddest way of starting a "postive" thread. As for V-Span, he looked really good last night/thismorning.
Considering our team personnel and the way the rules are going in the league, I think Vspan is an almost perfect addition. Obviously, if he could drain 3's at a 40% clip he would be perfect for us, but his game will fit very well with us anyway. Now that there's no handchecking, he'll penetrate at will. He has shown that he is a very adept pick and roll player, which takes some pressure off Tmac and gets Yao more easy baskets. Also, he seems like a Manu-esque defensive player. Now I know everyone hates flopping, but when the guy is doing it for your team, it's a whole different story. With Vspan and Battier always looking to take charges, Yao will be more protected in terms of foul trouble (at least in comparison to good ole matador Juwan). Hard to believe that some people are still being unnecessarily pessimistic even after this showing, but I am sure everyone will love the guy after 30 games or so.
True, but he is playing the same way he played earlier in the tournament. Getting to the hoop, beating his man, making 90% of his free throws. Did he shoot better than usual? Yes, but he basically did his game against much better than average NBA players which says something. This is not the summer league.

Sure he wont always get 22 but he sure will always be active
People would not believe it now, but they will when kill Bill starts to "kill" the NBA players next season.
After a close observation, I have concluded that the style of basketball Vspan showcased resembles the hybrid of Nash and Manu. - He uses the screen very well and reads the defense well that he is always aware where the 3rd defender is coming from. (Nash) - He has tricky footworks (like most euros) that will get him to the lane (Manu). - Once he gets into the lane, he is fierce (Manu) yet tricky enough (Nash) to get a layup. - He reads his opponent well and positions himself in a perfect position to take a charge (Nash & Manu) - His defense is persistent and scrappy. His hustles show that he got fire in him (Manu) He is a genius off the screen!
Juwan-matador? I'll tell you how bad Juwan is defensively. Juwan is so bad that...... the opponent uses him as their picker in their pick and roll to pick off one of our guards and essentially leave us playing 3 guys against their 5.
