    Thanks.

If is offensive for you, is your problem.

This "controversy" is one of the greatest stupidities I've seen lately. The photographer would say the players: "make this" or "do like that," and they would do so. Endpoint.

Just curious, do you always do what others tell you to? I think not.

Racism, intentional or perceived, should not be tolerated. It is not anyone's problem. It is our problem.

Are you Armenian? Would you feel the same way if someone makes a racial slur about Armenia or you would treat it as YOUR problem?

It is obviously offensive to 1.3 to 1.4 billion Chinese.
lets wait and see how Chinese would response.

Nice try, but it wasn't a comparison, it's pointing out the Spanish don't exactly have a good record with this sort of thing...

By throwing bananas and making monkey noises, the fans were saying that blacks are monkeys. Completely racist and unacceptable.

By pulling their eyes so they squint, the Spanish team was...ummm...saying that Chinese people have squinted eyes? Completely unnecessary, but not racist.

    Get it?

Honestly, I don't see the Spanish team's gesture to be much worse than this hangout thread: http://bbs.clutchfans.com/showthread.php?t=152676

I could easily take this "racism" thread and turn it into a stereotyping thread. Since when has it been okay to label an entire country as racists like some are doing?

When did I label the country? Quit putting words in my mouth. I simply am stating they don't have a good record with this...and there is no way to spin this or deny it.

Edit: I probably shouldn't have quoted you...oops. I wasn't meaning "you"...but I have seen quite a few people call Spaniards in general racists on the internet today.

"Some" are doing eh? If that wasn't directed towards me, I don't know how else to interpret that. Can't wait for your next genius reply.

    Contribute to the tip jar.

You wanted a genius reply, you got it. Totally unrelated - but I noticed it nonetheless.

By the way, I edited the post above...can you take a breather and come back when you're ready to stop making this personal? I don't appreciate your tone or sarcasm.

No, I'm spanish. And all this is stupid. I remember a photo of the Lithuanian team dressed like "toreros". It was for me stupid, no more.

I won't wait, I repeat, if that offends them, is their problem. Responsibility for the offense is something that concerns the person who feels offended, not me. If they feel disrespected by this, I think its phenomenal for them.

Wow another awesome post. You just don't stop.

I don't give 2 craps if you don't appreciate my tone or sarcasm. Welcome to the intarweb.

Anyway point is, if the Olympics were in Africa and a team took a "blackface" picture, would that be ok? No doubt there would be a huge outrage and even you would likely find it offensive (I'd hope).

That's how you took it. It's possible that someone else can take a different way and be offended. The way I took it when I first saw it is "they look weird with their freakish eyes, some how different, weird".

Now... everyone has a point of view. But in this case, who's point of view is more significant, someone from the outside looking in... or someone's who's on the business end of it.

Honestly... this gesture has been used to insult Asians for decades by white people. I've never once seen it done out of admiration. It's become sorta of a middle finger to Asians. There's symbolic significance. It's not something we can just say meh... they're just admiring our eyes.

I'm done with this thread... it's mentally frustrating.

Drift Monkey, you need a hug.

I guess we'll just agree to disagree.

    why?

because monkey is worse than those squinted Spaniards' asses?

the intentions are similar: both are for mockery and disrespecting

The target are similar: one is to blacks, the other one is to Chinese.

The method of symbolizing a race is similar: shape of face to monkey, ugly squinted Spanish eyes to the eye shape of Chinese.

I have squinted eyes as well and I'm not offended by it. I'm actually Hispanic, but everyone thinks I'm Asian.

Calling somebody a monkey is to dehumanize them.
Saying somebody has squinted eyes is...in this case true. I guess I just never saw squinted eyes as being ugly, so I never understood it to be a bit deal in this scenario.

It's not ugly, like it's said... it's symbolic, like the middle finger. It looks like i'm not going to convince you... so be it. I'll agree to disagree.
