I agree with everything you say here. I obviously have higher hopes for the trade values of our players.

I think the biggest emphasis I could make is filling out the PG position with playmakers who can take care of the ball and keep Patrick Beverley to play guard alongside these guys for that defensive pressure.

You can even have a 3 guard line up with Dmo and Howard. Howard thrives with 3 guard line ups and the floor stretching by Dmo would only add to that effect.

Something I've never understood about draft rights is how they work.

Does this mean that if he decides to join the NBA, ONLY the Rockets can draft him? Why did we use a pick for someone who didn't join the draft or switch to NBA?

I'd really appreciate an explanation because I do not understand how this drafting works.

No. Hes already drafted. It means he can only be signed by the Rockets. If he didnt want the Rockets because for example they had too many pgs his agent could ask the team to trade his rights elsewhere so he comes over. Its up to the team to comply to this. But if the player wants to come over he has no choice but to join the team who has his draft rights, IF they want to sign him.

Correct, and this is because they "drafted" him several years ago. Otherwise, Llull would be free to declare for the draft and see what team picks him up that way.

International are automatcally elligible when they are 22. They dint have a choice even if they dint declare someone may draft them.
thats why many declare early so they become secind rounders.
when you are a second rounder you are not forced to a rookie scale contract that pays peanuts for years. Otherwise players who are first rounders and dont wabt to be paid oeanuts for years they have to wait 3 years until they come over to not be subject to that robbery. I,e what Saric will do.

I guess the question was why should a team draft someone who doesn't seem to have an interest in ever playing for the NBA. We've seen him talk about wanting to stay in Europe to win a championship for RMB for years. Why waste a draft pick?

I can understand drafting him in order to essentially stash the player away and not use any of the salary cap or waste your draft pick on grabbing a non-contributor that you'd most likely have to give away before their value reaches anything worth a damn if you actually need the space

Because he may change his mind in the future and then you have someone be paid at most mle money and producing more than a mle player. Its a gambke worth taking.
most second round and furst round picks dont even stay in the leaugue long. Esp second rounders.

Seems to have great body control. He's like a bigger Tony Parker with those floaters. Those mid-air adjustments on jumpers show both bad shot selection and great adaptation and agility!

Jeremy Lin 2.0. Morey unnecessarily taking risk when the offseason hasn't even fully played out yet. Is Ty Lawson not available? What if this guy turns out to be a bust? Smh

The crotch chop at the beginning totally sold me. With his creativity and shot making ability, he should thrive playing with Dwight and Harden. Looks like a good open court player. His fire reminds me of Beverly. Looks like a near perfect fit at guard.

No sarcasm. At end of the day we don't know how this guys game will translate to the NBA. If we stay patient, we might be able to get a Ty Lawson for cheap. Lawson should be the key target this offseason

What has Llull proven at the NBA level? He could work out but its still a big gamble. I too would rather have Ty Lawson. We are contenders that are built to win now.

How do we know the Rockets aren't trying to get Lawson(or someone else via trade)? Morey is not an idiot. He's gotta cover all his bases when trying to address the PG spot. Right now his options appear to be:

    1) Sign Llull.
    2) Trade for a PG.
    3) Re-sign Bev.
    4) Draft a PG at #18.

Or a combination of those. I think it's a safe bet he's just making sure he doesn't go all in on Llull or Lawson only to strike out and have no backup plan available.

Llull is a free pickup. He doesn't cost the Rockets any assets other than cap. Acquiring him doesn't require the cooperation of any other NBA team. How anyone could be against this is beyond me. Assuming, of course, that his contract isn't excessive, and we know it won't be, because Moreyball.
