Zogby has it at 51%. Perhaps you should follow your own advice regarding "getting your facts straight".

The fact of the matter is that this country is divided right down the middle, and Dubya has one hell of a job on his hands if he wants to truly bring this country together.

The "point" is that you chastise someone for "sniping at the author" and then proceed to do it yourself.

    Questions?

No, the message was about the intense focused criticism on the occasional, possible lapses of our service men and women. This undermines morale and thus serves to embolden the enemy.

BTW, the liberal media myth died in the 90s. Get over it.

I said the LATEST poll. The Zogby is not the latest poll. Get your facts straight.

I didn't snipe at Twain; I pointed out that you were using satire to try and make a legitimate point. What next? Jonathan Swift on solving the problems of world hunger?

But the quote used by Twain wasn't satire.

You're right. The country isn't divided, now is it.

Has Santa come down your chimney yet, bigtexx? An elf told me he has a life to deliver to you.

Don't you know by now that any bit of writing that doesn't toe the Administration line is either satire or propaganda?

Why do you say that? If it isn't satire, it is just obscene-- equating patriotism to cowardice... sheesh!

I quoted the approval rating at or about the time of the Presidental election. Now, don't you feel foolish?

If 99% of Americans support our troups, why would there be a need to actively have a "Support our Troups" campaign from the right?

I stand by what I wrote. Support our Troups is a facade to promote support for our Chucklehead-In-Chief.

These anti-van Gundy threads are something of an analogy to this "support the troops" situation.

He wasn't equating true patriotism to cowardice. He was equating what passes for patriotism. It was a very appropo quote that I showed my wife because I was so impressed by it.

He was speaking to people like many in this administration who say speaking out against the war isn't supporting troops or being patriotic. When I believe true patriotism is standing up for what you believe is best for the country you love. If someone believes this war is bad for the country we love, then speaking out against it, is being very patriotic.

What about the part about cowardice? You left that out.

The truly important question which is being ignored is what does Orson Scott Card think about this?

Moral cowardice....or are you being purposely selective in which words you remember?

Those who are bullied out of voicing their decent would fit that bill, but more importantly the people who are scared to hear the criticism, and try squash it by calling it unpatriotic or supporting the enemies, would fall into the category of cowards.
