Not that rankings mean s*** in the FCS because they have a, you know, actual playoff system. But I'm sure SHSU should move up the polls by a healthy margin this week. Undefeated, playing very well, and just beat a FBS team (even if it was New Mexico).
My ESPN phone app had Sam Houston losing 48-45 in OT, so I went to bed thinking of what might have been (beating a division I team on the road). Got up Sunday morning and the Chronicle had us winning 48-45. I don't care how bad New Mexico is, any time a I-AA team beats a I-A team on the road, that's pretty damn impressive. Can't wait for October 8th. Time for some revenge. Anyone else going?
That's a big win. They moved up from #20 to #16. And now, conference games are getting heated up. All games are Saturday: Lamar (2-1, 0-0) @ Southeastern Louisiana (1-3, 0-1) #18 McNeese (2-1, 1-0) @ Northwestern State (2-2, 1-0) Nicholls (1-3, 0-1) @ Texas State UTSA @ #16 Sam Houston (3-0, 1-0) SFA (1-3, 0-0) @ Central Arkansas (1-3, 0-1)
The Southland TV game this week was Lamar @ Southeastern Louisiana. Lamar's offense looked really, really good. They won big. Next week, it's the Battle of the Piney Woods.
This week's game: Central Arkansas (2-3, 1-1) @ Nicholls (1-4, 0-1) Stephen F. Austin (1-4, 0-1) vs. Sam Houston (4-0, 1-0) at Reliant Stadium (Southland TV game this week) Northwestern State (2-3, 1-1) @ Lamar (3-1, 1-0) Texas State @ McNeese (3-1, 2-0) The class of the league seems to be McNeese and Sam Houston. If I'm picking right now, I'd pick one of them to win the conference.
texas state continues its farewell tour of the southland with their third straight win over an ex-conference foe. see you next weekend, lamar.
Another easy win for the 10th ranked Bearkats. We're now 1 of only 3 undefeated I-AA schools and the only one with a victory over a I-A school. McNeese lost too, so we're alone atop the SLC standings. Biggest game of the year this week against McNeese. Whoever wins will most likely win the conference. McNeese has always been a thorn in our sides so I hope we can pull this one out on the road. Can't wait until 11/19 when we complete our sweep of the Texas schools. Southwest Texas is going down.
