Who believes that's okay? Romney has taken lots of heat from conservatives for that.

How about people who "mooch" off the police while others provide their own self-defence? Alarm systems and what not.

    lol dum

I rather agree, actually, that if it was a slam-dunk benefit I would consider passing a mandate. However, I am pretty sure that everyone owning a gun would increase police, EMS, and perhaps even fire and military expenses. Given that, I lean more in the opposite direction -- banning everyone from owning one.

Anne Coulter said on Hannity las night that there is proof that forcing all citizens to buy guns and Bibles is safer than forcing all citizens to buy healthcare :)

We pay our Public Servants their salary. If you pay taxes you are not mooching.

The people proposing the law don't necessarily believe it will lower costs either. They are making a point. as ace says:

And everybody pays for them with taxes. If conservatives had come out with this strong preference they apparently have for a single-payer system when the bill was being debated, we probably could have done that -- everybody pay another tax and get healthcare from the government, just like police and fire and a host of other government services.

Yes, everybody. If you have an objection to the system we've established to determine how much each person should pay, that's probably a whole 'nother thread.

Lots of people apparently (there are people other than conservatives in this country). You don't see that the MA law has been repealed or ruled unconstitutional, do you?

Wait, so gun owners and alarm systems owners do not require the police? Great, they should wear stickers so that the police knows not to protect them. In the meantime, we'll offer them a tax cut for not requiring the police.

to make an argument? is that what constituents voted a representative into office for? to hold the political process hostage applying HIS OWN PRINCIPLES to an entire State's legislation process, that is nothing but a phony PR move?
