Manziel is widely regarded as one of the best qb's in NCAA history and in just two years has the records to make that stand. RGIII? He was the flavor of the Heisman month. The end.

Manziel will have a much much better NFL career than that scarecrow.

Tebow and VY also set the college world on fire. You have to look at play that translates to the NFL game.

I do think a lot of what ruined Tebow and VY were city support and a steadily dropping confidence level because of mediocre success - Manziel would have neither here.

Ultimately it's a decision on "best player available" or "most needed position"...and I think we need a QB more than we need help on defense (just like we needed a WR last year and finally took one). McCarron in a later round is the honestly the "safe" pick the Texans would make if they draft like they have in the past but I hope they take the risk and go for Manziel.

The problem with guys like that is that they've made serious investments in a wardrobe full of burnt orange t-shirts. They've spent actual weeks combing Goodwill for a vintage James Brown shirt to go with a silky Chris Simms thong.

You can't wear a maroon #2 jock with an Applewhite onesie.

Unleashing JFF with the Texans would usher in the cataclysmic end of the world for t-shirt fans everywhere. Let the exorcism begin!

There must be some stupid college board you can take this garbage to, right? A plague on both your houses.

Where do you get that he is more talented than Manziel. Manziel was deffinitely a better college player and that all we have to go on at this time. And I don't think 40 time means much for a QB. It's all how you play on the field and so far Manziel has been spectacular.

It's just an opinion, but I'm extremely confident that if RG3 was deleted from the Redskins' roster, reinserted into this year's draft and checked out medically, he'd be the #1 pick in this draft. Whether we took him or traded the pick, he'd go first. Most likely to the Texans.

Anyone that thinks that Manziel is a better prospect that RGIII has smoked some bad weed. RGIII would be the run away #1 pick if he were coming out this season. The only reason he didn't go #1 was because the best QB prospect since Manning (and maybe Elway) decided to come out.

Having said that, RGIII was terrible last year, he consistently failed to see wide open receivers, he has proven to have injury issues and apparently has off the field personality issues.

If the Texans want to move down and take Manziel, good luck with that. I hope it works out and Manziel turns into a Hall of Famer.... but it is a huge risk with a huge bust potential.

The Texans won't do it..... but they should trade down and take the best player available, and look for a QB next season.

You have got to be kidding me.

Just on pure raw physical talent alone Griffin whips Manziel

Mack Brown is who ruined VY. He never taught him any discipline, never taught him to learn the playbook and just let him run wild. Those same things don't work in the NFL as Vince learned the hard way.

I also saw Garret Gilbert had an outstanding pro day. Another QB ruined by Mack.

They aren't smoking weed, they are smoking crack lol

I agree with you on Griffin though, very very under developed as a pro passer and the side issues. Even more the reason not to want Manziel

I think we are getting Clowney or trade back

The goal of the Texans (as with ANY NFL team): TO WIN THE SUPERBOWL

    That's all that matters.

So with that in mind, the vital questions for the Texans to ask are:

    1) Do you see clear potential in ANY of the QBs in this draft when it comes to being a 'Superbowl-Winning Quarterback'? In other words, you never know what a QB will do of course, but do you see ANYTHING which gives you a good indicator of their SB-Winning potential? YOu may see some things which never materialize, that is obviously a possibility - it's all a crap shoot, we know this. However, the question is more one of 'What DO you see?' If you see some good things, but then he doesn't pan out, well, ok, the Football Gods are just that way sometimes. But if you truly don't see ANYTHING which leads you to truly believe one of these guys can be the QB for a SB-winner, then that matters. A lot. Personally, I don't know. Bigger brains than mine are going to have to decide on this.

    2) If you don't see that vital quality in this year's QB class, then what do you see in next year's QB class? Winston and Mariotta? Other as-yet-unknown stars? Do you clearly believe one of next year's QBs will be substantially better than anyone you can pick up this year? If so, this directly influences what you do THIS year.

    3) If you truly do not see a SB-winner potential among the QBs this year, then do you take the long view and draft Clowney? Or Mack? ASSUMING you don't draft a QB this year, then you tank again and have a top-2 pick next season, and grab one of the top QBs then - which player THIS year best helps you win a SB outside of the QB spot? Clowney, Mack, Matthews even?

It just seems to me that the goal of being a champion precludes the team from just taking the best QB THIS YEAR simply because they need a QB for the future. If their superstar QB is not in this year's class, then they should wait for next year, and ignore QB this year altogether.

My own opinion? I feel the same way as several others here - I am intrigued by both Manziel and Clowney.

Manziel, for all his outside-the-box operation, still did in fact accomplish something NO OTHER PLAYER IN HISTORY accomplished - winning the Heisman as a freshman. That wasn't an accident. He's really good. Problem of course is that because he is 'unconventional', if the team who drafts him tries to simply shoe-horn him into a traditional generic 'pro offense', he probably will never be anything but average. To have true success, the team drafting him will need to be willing to USE what he brings, rather than try to eradicate it. Will it be the Texans? I don't know, nobody here really knows what O'Brien is really all about just yet.

Clowney, well, if we weren't in our dire QB situation, is there any doubt Clowney would be the pick? I would be happy with this pick, if the Texans made it clear that they just don't see SB potential in any of the top 3 QB prospects. And who knows, maybe they pick Clowney and then someone like Carr in the 2nd. Again, it all just comes down to the question of, Which of these guys will help us win a Super Bowl?

Clearly, the IDEAL situation is that the Texans draft Manziel, and he becomes a great player, and leads this team to much success. The Texans know this, McNair knows this, O'Brien knows this, heck even Rick Smith knows this. I suspect they are hoping and praying that Manziel manages to rise above the other prospects at the top of this draft, so they don't have to keep agonizing over this pick.

I know this, nobody ever accused Manziel of being a cornball brother; that boy got street cred.
