The bigger the risk, the higher the reward.

The Texans have a history of making the "safe" decision,. See how well that has worked out for us?

Right now from a Texans PR prospective I think we either draft Manziel or Clowney. I don't think Bridgewater will have the fan support (as a larger collective) and a Bortles pick might actually be booed. Drafting Manziel with the city and state behind him would do wonders for his already sky high confidence level - I think it's the pick we need. We would force defenses to play us differently than most (if not all) teams between Foster/Manziel it would be tough to defend. Worth the risk I think.

I tend to agree here, although I'm not as harsh on Bortles as you are.

I still want Clowney. However, I'm not sold that BO'B will buy into his work ethic. If not, then Manziel's the guy.

So we can get Winston/Mariota next year?

    I am down with that

Move Manziel to slot and a real qb at the helm, I can dig it

Seriously, look what Sumlin did to the SEC in two years.

Just for laughs, lets break down last season's draft by conference.

    ACC-30
    PAC 12-28
    Big 12-22
    Big East-21
    Big 10-20
    Conference USA-8
    Mountain West-7
    MAC-6
    WAC-6
    Sun Belt-3
    Independents-7

    SEC-63

It may not be close to the NFL, but talent wise it's closer to the NFL than anywhere else you're going to get. And the apparent bane of your existence produced 10,000 yards in TWO YEARS there. But hey, keep talking him down while comparing Bridgewater to Montana.

yeah I think you take the risk this time and pick manziel.. You have a backup QB anyway..

    You have 10 other picks.

keep manning at safety and you are set at 2ndary.

With the rounds 2-6 other 10 picks-

you get 2 offensive line, 2 defense line and 2 linebackers.1 running back.

    Keep Keo btw.

You also have some room to sign one or two more players to shore up additional differences. I am not sure what is left in FA though.

So you have offense of :
    Manziel , Fitz , keenum?
    foster and rookie rb
    Andre Johnson, hopkins, posey
graham TE,duane brown, who else on OL line myers? who else? 2 rookie offensive linemen right?

    defense:
watt, 2 new rookie DL,who else on DL?
    cushing and keo
    2 new rookie linebackers
    manning, joseph, swearinger,clemons, lewis?

shakey defense with 2 new rookie linebackers and 2 new rookie defensive line.

Thats 4 rookies on defense.. but I suppose it would be that way if we took clowney.. and hes an unproven variable anyway.

Either way we are looking at about 4 rookies starting on defense right?

I like Bridgewater a lot for Bill O'Brien philosophy but I completely agree with this assessment.

Except you're assuming those are mistakes. If he's passing up a 5 yard open pass for a 40 yard pass *because he has Mike Evans*, that's different than just doing it for the hell of it. What he did consistently worked, so they weren't necessarily bad decision making. The bad decision making would be if he still does that even if the talent doesn't dictate it and thus those decisions don't work - we don't have an answer to that at this point. But if you have a monster like Mike Evans, you *should* be going for big plays and jump balls.

Depends if you're trying to be great or trying to avoid being bad.

Texans will draft Manziel because it is too risky for them to not do so. If he were to go elsewhere and be successful, it could cause a large percentage of their fan base to turn on the Owner. On the other hand, if Manziel is a bust (he won't be), the some fans might be angry but others will recognize he was worth the risk.

Right now, they are evaluating so O'Brien can get onboard. McNair would rather them come to the same conclusion than have to overrule his new head coach.

Just the way it is fellas. With how Manziel has been working (completed 97% of his Pro Day passes, Bortles completed 81%) and considering how high his ceiling is, they have to take the risk of drafting Johnny Football #1. And it's mostly because the risk of not taking him is so high.

I thought you said running QBs aren't worth it in the NFL because they always get hurt.

Oh wait, that only applies to black QBs. Manziel's white so he's good.

    Exposed.

You want so desperately for your little narrative to be true, but it's simply not. It's false.

Drafting Johnny Manziel gives the Texans a chance to compete in San Antonio, Austin, El Paso etc. With Dallas. But i suspect San Antonio is the crown jewel.

actually it's broader than that. Manziel will get interest on a national level. Merchandise sales will get a nice boost, and Nike is invested in him, which will also help.

However, if Johnny is a bust, then we'll gain nothing.

Tex is trolling. On the A&M football thread he said all year that Johnny was average. Now he wants him.

Only a fool would believe what Tex-Mex is selling.

Winning is the ultimate sales pitch, you don't draft players off of popularity. That is how you lose

Can't even believe that people with access to a computer could even be discussing such nonsense

not sure why you're making that up.
