1. Jordan Hill 8th pick 2. Terrence Williams 10th pick 3. Patrick Patterson 14th pick 4. 2012 NY pick 5. Chase Budinger... not a 1st rounder but probably worth a high second.
#3 - Favors #26 to 30 - Lakers pick #15 to 30 - Rockets pick 2012 #8 to 20 - Golden State's pick #15 to 25 - New Jersey's own pick (after they trade for Melo and make the playoffs) One lottery pick (Favors) and 4 mid to late first rounders is New Jersey's offer #8 - Hill #11 - TWill #31 to 33 - Clippers second rounder #10 to 20 - Brooks value if traded #15 to 30 - Scola's value if traded pick from Yao trade........possibly lottery pick top 3 or 5 protected One plausible scenario from the Rox trumping NJ's value. If Denver thinks Favors is all that, then they should turn the trade and let NJ convince Melo to sign his extension. If Denver doesn't think Favors is all that, they may should consider equivalent talent of 5 first round draft picks that is already proven they can play. Scola/Brooks/Hill plus the 2012 Knicks pick or the 2011 pick swap plus some other value from Yao's expiring is more than enough to trump New Jersey and New York. We could work out a deal with Melo to give him his extension and trade him to the Knicks if they send us Wilson Chandler and Anthony Randolph back after this season. That way we can rent him and still get our original value back. A huge trade exception of $17 million plus Randolph and Chandler would be worth giving up some of our original assets for anyways.
No way you trade Scola AND Brooks for a Melo rental. Maybe Brooks, but hell no to Scola, unless your getting back Nene or another 20/10 big.
Did you read the article? It said 5 picks as a part of a larger package, ie players. It also said they were giving up Harris, which is probably to a third team for picks. Maybe it is us? Its likely Murphy, Favors + 3 picks to Denver Harris to some third part for the ther other 2 picks And I agree, thats way to much to give up for an unextended Melo, heck maybe too much for an extended Melo.
If we are talking about a rental then they can't expect ANYONE to give them 5 picks and if they insist on that...hope they enjoy that nice T/E he will generate once he leaves in the offseason.
That's what happens when you have an amateur GM and owner running a NBA team. You would have thought that clown GM would have known better since he had experience with the whole Bosh debacle. Like the ole saying goes, " Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me".
I have to think the guy is trying to squeeze EVERYTHING he can out of Melo before the deadline. I've read a few different people say that they won't move him until the deadline to insure the best possible picks from NJ. What could happen is that they may squeeze a bit to hard and NJ says goodbye, leaving Denver with rental options and the Knicks and we know they aren't on their xmas card list.
Do you think.............do you think......that Philly would give up Evan Turner to get rid of Elton Brand's contract???????? (I do.) Do you think the Warriors would give up Udoh to get rid of Biedrins' contract????? (I think maybe.) Do you think the Hornets would give up their 2010 first rounder to get rid of Okafor's contract? (Possibly.) How about Detroit, do think they would give up Monroe for the chance to unload Hamilton or even Gordon???? (I think very possible.) How many others can we name? Now, let's just consider the first one, Philly. Evan Turner, #2 pick, hasn't given them much. They are borderline 8 seed in the East, chicken fodder come the playoffs, and if they do make the playoffs they are out of the lottery. Let's assume they would be willing to give up Turner to get rid of Brand. Yeah, I know big assumption.....right? I think not. #2 pick Turner #8 pick Hill #11 pick TWill Scola-mid first rounder plus the 2011 pick swap or 2012 Rockets pick whichever Denver prefers. That's way better than Favors and 4 mid to late first rounders.
Okay, hypothetically, this is the deal that's on the table. Favors + Murphy + 2 picks aquired from Harris trade to a 3rd team. Am I right? This is the lineup you have in New Jersey Farmer/Vujacic Graham/Morrow Carmelo/Outlaw Humphries/Petro Lopez/?????? WHy on god's green earth would Melo agree to an extension there? Unless NJ is for sure 100% that they could net another 1st or 2nd tier player for Harris.
He would possibly do it if they unfolded a plan to bring Chris Paul in to play with him and Lopez in another year. By the way, I'd like to know the team that is going to give NJ two first round pick for Harris. Don't you think those first round picks are likely from a contending team, probably 25+ in the draft order?
From what I've heard from numerous sauces, as Stephen A. Smith would say, , they believe this mess will get sorted out by mid January. The game plan for Denver is to have Melo play a few more weeks with this supporting cast with Anderson and Martin finally healthy, and convince Melo one last time to sign the extension. If it doesn't work, they will trade him ASAP.
That sure is a gamble, I would expect Melo to not take that risk. Another thing, then you have a bidding war pitting NJ and NY against each other for the services of CP3. New York would have more assets down the line and could absorb Okafor's contract with Curry's expiring. Then you have CP3. Who would you rather play for? Amare or Carmelo?
Carmelo is the only superstar the Rockets have a shot at this season. LeBron and Wade would step in if a Bosh trade was in the works. The question is is Carmelo worth the risk? It could turn out like the Ron Artest trade.
People the reason the Nuggets would take our offer over the Nets is because of MELO. The Nuggets are ready to trade with the Nets TODAY, but unless Melo wants to sign an extension, they are not going to be willing to trade. I'd be willing to take a rental @ a lower cost. The Rockets can offer more than any other rental team. If we can get away w/ Hill, Bud, Contract Fillers, and take back a bad contract, I'd be all for it. No team looks unstoppable this year, as in year's past, which gives the Rockets at least a shot. The Heat looks very good, but that was to be expected, but they are 1 injury away from not being able to beat Boston. Boston and SA look great right now, but fact is both are OLD, and injuries are going to happen to old teams. LA doesn't look great right now, they look beatable. Then there is Dallas. Dirk just got hurt, I'm not sure for how long, and the Mavs have been known to be playoff chokers. So why not take a rental for 2 good but far from great players in Bud and Hill for an increase from 1% to 10% shot @ the title. That seems like a worthwhile trade to be. (I think such a big increase for a few reasons, 1) we have a guy who can close a game, 2) We get a superstar meaning we will finally have someone who can get superstar calls).
God i hope they don't rent him losing most of their assets. It makes no sence since Yao is done what's the point to rent him? Unless they S&T him to NY later for Gallinari, Randolph, Fields then it's worth it. But why would Melo agree to a S&T when he can go flat out sign with NY.
