Struck out is a horrible word / analogy, because you have absolutely no idea what kind of pitches he was getting. Maybe he walked...
He traded away 2 useful players and got essentially nothing in return and the team is still burdened with the same garbage players now that they were before the deadline with absolutely no upgrade whatsoever. That's striking out. Now sure, he wasn't thrown any pitches to hit, but he swung at them anyway.
Thornton was useful for maintaining the 9th seed. DMO/DNP was not, in the vast majority of games, a factor. Now we have a new 1st round pick, and a chance to tank enough to retain our own pick. You can say that's terrible, but it is not "essentially nothing."
This. I am by no means a fan of every move but we have no idea what goes on behind closed doors and fans seem to forget there are 29 other teams trying to improve/stock pile.
There is the faintest glimmer of having 2 picks in that 8-14 range now. Heck, you never know, we might manage to keep our own and get the lucky ping pong ball bounce... I get what Stan Van is trying to do, but if Tobias Harris doesn't turn it around, he may have snookered himself.
Also a different position. He's a capable defender that can guard the wing position very well. Plus he's been a surprise performer for the Suns. No doubt why the Suns wanted to keep him. I think a better comparison is Ariza. I know you're pissed at losing DMo but we probably wouldn't have seen him on the court this year and if we did, he wouldn't have made enough impact to change the outcome of the season.
