Sources: Rockets looking for a scorer off the bench

Props to CyberX for the intel. Rockets have to wait until Jan 15th to move Brewer though I believe. Improving the Rockets scoring efficiency will help the defense. Less fast breaks the other way. Rockets are still looking for "secondary scoring", the scoring that they had hoped to get from Lawson.

Looking for bench scoring though is interesting when the Rockets have Thornton there for the job.

 

Maybe you don't understand that these trades are about Brew.
Brew is one of the worst contracts of the league right now because of the length and his useless and his age.
For a salary dump getting back the likes of N.Young and Lou Williams is a major victory.
Otherwise you are looking at GIVING teams second rounders to get rid of him.

 

What exactly does this have to do with anything? If this plays into MOARIES thinking of how to improve the team, THEN he needs step down/get fired immediately!!!

Appreciate that update and clarification. It's obvious when in the past Howard talked about the team needing to "trust their teammates" Howard is talking, at least in some aspects, about Harden needing to trust his teammates on the offensive end.

Harden & Howard should be a deadline PnR combo. Why aren't they?
The Rockets offense is too stagnant and too much Harden out top with guys standing around. Why?

Fix those issues.

 

in the smaller picture, yes trading brew's contract for an able body is a real coup for us.

in the bigger picture, wtf was morey thinking signing this scrub to that ridiculous contract in the first place?

in the immediate picture, brew can't be traded for another month and the schedule actually starts to include non-tanking teams now = dumping brew's salary doesn't help save this season -- on jan 15th this team is already a dinosaur.

The Rockets need a Batum, Afflalo type of player. Unloading Brewer means they've waited too long, ie mid-January. Why not offload Lawson instead and now?

In the meantime, they need to go get TJ McConnell.

 

A shaky coaching situation and players internally not happy with playing with Harden, on top of Howard being disliked by other team's players .....this does not bold well for the Rockets 2016 free agency pitches.

 

Not sure about this 100%, but is Brewer even contractually eligible for a trade? Didnt the Rocket use his Early Bird rights to sign him...therefore making him only trade eligible sometime around mid January? And doesnt he get veto a trade if the Rockets do decide to move him??

The way I see it for this team. It's defense creates offense. Sort out the defense, the fastbreak scoring will come, and Brewer will be an asset again.

Well..sunk costs are sunk costs. What you are doing from then on to fix your mistakes is what matters.

What happened IN MY OPINION, is that we were expecting Brew to get signed for cheap 4-5 per. That's why for most time in FA we did nothing because we wanted flexibillity for next year with Durant.
But then here comes the Kings and offer Brew 8-9 per at the end of FA and we are forced to pay him too or lose him and then we would have no backup.
It was bad and a gamble but noone knew how MUCH he would fall off a cliff...and unfortuantely with the cap rise 8 per is what a backup gets paid in his sleep.

These players cost assets to get.
Batum cost a top 10 last year pick and is going to get 100% max. 25 per.
Afflalo cost Portland a first rounder and he chose the Knicks because of his bff Melo. He took a risk and he too is going to get paid. (the only guy who took the less in the hand more in the future money approach in FA).
Tj McConnell is a player on a team with no pg. You can't take him away from them esp now with Collangelo.
Noone is interested in acquiring Lawson.

 

How about playing Thornton? Instead of not playing him?

Oh god, just bring in Casey Jacobsen, Rick Brunson, Frahm, Maciej Lampe, Jake Tsakalidis, Courtney Fortson while you are at it.

The more he plays, the less you'll want him to.

 

He doesn't get to veto. He can be traded by january 15th.
Which means even with the trade talks if you have talked about a trade with another team, you HOPE that they won't find in the meantime a better target.
So at least we have a backup plan now with the two Lakers contracts.
I think that there will be more teams than us interested in Lou.

How will the defence fix itself? It won't by Jan.15. All our perimeter players apart from Ariza are bad defenders.
