Mechanically, I'm having a hard time figuring out how to clear the necessary salary for Lowry without dumping both Lin and Asik at the same time. I'm assuming Lowry will sign for about $12 per year.

    21.4 - Howard
    14.7 - Harden
    8.4 - Asik
1.8 - Parsons, withdraw qualifying offer
    1.6 - TJones
    0.9 - Beverley
    3.1 - 6 cap holds

That gives you $11.3 million in space, but it means trading Lin, DMo, and Canaan, plus renouncing Daniels. Trading Beverley would give you another $0.4.

To execute a sign-and-trade for Lowry that keeps us above the cap and that also keeps all our ancillary salary in play for a trade for Love. Combining the Asik trade with a sign-and-trade of Lowry with Bev going to Toronto accomplishes that. We'll have Lowry at the point for 35 minutes a night with Isaiah Canaan and Nick Johnson to spell him as needed. Nick Johnson could be an upgraded better-shooting version of Beverley.

This would leave Lin, DMo, TJones, Casspi, Powell, Covington, Capella (if signed), Gentile (if signed) as salary that could be combined in a trade for Love and Martin. (There's enough salary there to do that.)

These trades would leave us over the cap with our full MLE and the BAE to fill out the roster.

I agree that this is the much preferred route. I'd rather operate above the cap versus trying to clear space.

Plan B is to trade Lin, Canaan, Bev and DMo, with hopefully a pick or two coming back. We wouldn't be able to help Minnesota with cap relief under this scenario.

With Asik being already "off" the books shouldn't we have more than enough to sign Lowry?

    Huh?

There's enough salary between Lin, DMo, Jones, Casspi, Powell, Covington, Capell, etc. to trade for Love and Martin.

Lin, DMo, Canaan, Casspi, Powell, Covington and Cappella would all have to be gone (or not count against the cap) to sign Lowry to a $11.3 million deal. All you'd have left is Asik, TJones and Beverley as far as tradable players.

So no Lowry to the Heat. Who does that leave on their list? Ariza, Deng, Pau?

No, you missed the point. Asik is being traded. IF we get Lowry to agree to a deal...that he'll walk here....we can most likely generate a sign-and-trade for him by offering Toronto Beverley straight up. The simultaneous trade from our side is Asik and Bev out and Lowry and the pick in. Then you have the pick plus Lin, DMo, Jones, Casspi, Powell, Capella, and even possibly Jordan Hamilton and/or Francisco Garcia as outgoing salary that would allow you to take in Love and Martin from Minny.
