He passes the ball to someone who can...? Kinda like he did when he was winning titles in Boston! Plus his shot has improved.
Correct. Rondo's lack of a jumpshot had absolutely nothing to do with how well Lebron was playing. Lebron gave Rondo all the space in the world, and Rondo simply couldn't make open jumpers when it counted. Also, don't forget that he and Ray Allen had problems in the locker room so I also think his "leadership" ability is greatly exaggerated.
Rondo was the biggest piece on those celtics teams, at least according to Doc he was. When healthy, Rondo can be the best PG in the league.
AND, that's cuz Lebron was guarding him. Probably the ONLY guy who could consistently keep rondo in front of him... The guys that would be guarding him on this team wouldn't be able to keep him in front, opposing teams best defender will be on Harden.
It sounds like you don't fully understand the situation. When the defense gives Rondo a wide open shot, it means that nobody else is open. And even if Rondo passes the ball, the defense will keep rotating until the ball gets back into Rondo's hands. Seriously? He did not have a big role on that Boston championship team, and arguing otherwise is intellectually dishonest. Also, even though he only played 30 games this season, it was the worst shooting season of his career.
Hey i'd be ecstatic with either Lowry or Rondo, doesn't matter which either is a big upgrade, both great defenders, rebounders, high intensity players. While Lowry isn't as great of a passer, he is a better shooter, so they're pretty even to me.
Wrong. All Lebron did was give him plenty of space, take away his driving lanes, and dare him to shoot an uncontested jumper. Just about anyone in the league can play that type of defense.
Nope. You referenced Boston's championship team. Rondo didn't have a big role on that team. Go look at the stats.
Stats done tell the story with rondo! You obviously don't know basketball very well of you don't think rondo played a MAJOR role on those teams. And you clearly don't understand what it's like to play defense on someone who makes a living off of penetration. With most defenders, it doesn't matter if they give him space, he gets around them anyway! It takes a guy like Lebron to keep him from doing so. If he were on this team, you think Lebron would be guarding him? I don't! And you are drastically overstating his shooting difficulties. He's not a great shooter, but if you give enough space he can knock down an open shot. You make it seem like you have to be a great 3 point shooter to be successful. The guy has been an all star 4 times and is unquestionably a top 10 pg right now, top 5 when fully healthy! Having said all that, I'd be fine with getting Lowry back instead if it means we keep parsons.
Sorry, but Rondo didn't play a major role on that title team. Look at the stats for the championship series. Rondo averaged 27 mpg, 4 rpg, 7 apg, and 9 ppg on 38% shooting. You think that qualifies as a major role? Get real. Absolutely wrong. If the defender gives the ball-handler space, that means he's taking away the driving lanes, packing the paint, and sacrificing the open jumper. At that point, it's highly unlikely the ball-handler would be able to get into the paint. That's exactly what Lebron did in the playoffs, and Rondo kept missing wide-open jumpers. There's a huge difference between being a great 3 point shooter and a serviceable one. Rondo is neither. Rondo is a horrible 3 point shooter.
he was only 22 at the time. two years later over a 7 game series in the finals he did average 14/8/6 with 2 stls while shooting 45%FG and his last playoff run of 19 games in 2012 he tallied 17/12/7 with 2 stls while shooting 47%FG can't shoot 3's you're rite about that, but otherwise the rest of his game is nothing short of exceptional (assuming he can get back to that level since the injury)
Rondo is the best player to get since MCHALE is coming back. (I will feel more comfortable with mchale here) He can coach better than mchale I'm sure and at least he will get harden & Howard in their spots to score. He will know when to speed thing up or slow it down, clock management, ball movement, re-post entry passes, alleys, etc Look at rondo as a 2 for 1 deal. Coach/player and bring in a defensive minded assistant.
I agree, Jones couldn't shoot 3s, so all we need to do is a get a PF that can shoot 3s and we will be fine. A PF that can shoot the 3 is more important than a pg to give space for Howard to work.
Wow, okay 1st of all. If you watched the celtics at all in that entire era, including the 1st year when they won it all, and didn't see the intangible impact Rondo made for them then I simply have nothing to say to you because you don't understand what you are watching. He managed the egos of 3 guys coming from a team where they were the number 1 guy and kept them all happy. No matter the situation, they trusted him with tha ball in his hands and he delivered. You are correct, when you give a ball handler space, you are attempting to take away the driving lanes. Tell me why Rondo has been so successful his whole career at getting to the rim if it was that simple to take him out of his game? The fact of the matter is some guys are good enough at getting to the rim, it normally doesn't matter what you do, he's gonna get there a few times. You are taking one series and putting that against an 8 year career. So Lebron shut him down for a series. Guess what? Lebron has done the same thing to plenty players. He did it to DRose the year Rose was the MVP. And you're completly ignoring what Rondo would bring to this team defensively. He's not a great scorer. But he an elite defender, an elite ball handler, has elite court vision, is right up there with CP3 and LeBron when it comes to being a leader, AND has that feisty additude that we lack. If you still don't see rondo's value, then I simply don't know what to say to you.
