I think Minnesota is playing a dangerous game here. If they wait too long the best offer available to them may disappear. If the Rockets go into a steep nosedive, they may decide that giving away 4 firsts for Jimmy is not their best option. If Houston loses interest, then the Wolves may lose some leverage and may have to accept something far inferior than the Houston offer. Also, if the Rockets are determined to trade away multiple first round picks for an immediate upgrade, then there may be other teams interested in making a deal. Butler doesn't have to be the Rockets only option.
Rockets being interested in Butler are definitely a good thing for Minnie, having a team willing to move four 1st rounder gives them a lot of leverage with other teams like you said, the moment the Rockets pull their offer the Wolves are suddenly in a worse position with Miami, Phila or whoever wants Butler.
I was thinking the same thing. If we go something like 1-3 in our next 4 then I can’t imagine Morey not abandoning the Jimmy Butler trade offers.
Maybe Minnesota is light weight tanking. Everybody's disgruntled and don't want to play. Zion would be a perfect fit with KAT stretching the floor.
While I do think Minny will regret not taking our first round draft picks, if including PJ with EG and limited draft picks would have gotten it done (not saying that actually was a possibility, no one really knows), then we will probably regret not doing that. Look. This season is a wash. It is early but we don’t have just minor things we need to tweak, we are just all out of sorts. You don’t go from losing to every team and getting blown out to all of a sudden becoming contenders. Our best case scenario right now is looking like we sneak into the playoffs and ousted in the first round, maybe 1 upset but definitely no conference finals. Worst case is we miss the playoffs. But if we had obtained Jimmy, even though Chris Pauls contract will be an albatross, we would still have Harden, Jimmy and Capela all in their primes for atleast another couple of years. Those are three excellent players. Give Morey another summer of re-tooling, which he has done a great job at before when we moved on from Dwight, and keep most of our picks that we have shown we’d be willing to dump, and we can get right back into it next year. It sucks because we all had high hopes for this year but let’s not start going crazy and talk about blowing it up. Anyway, that’s all heresay because now PJ and EG won’t get it done, and I’m not comfortable giving away all our picks because we’d need those for adding more to the roster.
It was already said(by Stein) that if Eric was included with the picks, a deal might have already been done.
You missed what I said. I was talking about if the rumours around here about including PJ with EG and a limited/protected pick before the season were true, then we should have done that. Also it doesn’t matter what Stein says, it seems Thibs and Minny have just been goofing around on their side, no matter what we offered they probably would have asked for more as a counter offer
Oh my bad. But I think it still would have been a bad deal, Tucker has been one of the only bright spots this season on both ends. No way was Morey doing that and I'm glad he didnt. What do you mean, why does it not matter what Stein said? He's a respected journalist? 4 picks are worth alot man, I really doubt no matter people view them that they just balked at our offer, hell they almost gotta deal done with Miami which was a worse deal.
To your first part, I’d be lying if I said I didn’t hesitate about including PJ before the season started. But I’m saying if you look at where we are now, I’d rather move forward with a core of Harden Jimmy and Capela in their primes moving forward even if we would have had a disappointing season this season. Again, it’s easy to say that now, I don’t fault Morey for not wanting to include PJ, but if we don’t land another star (and that will prove to be difficult) it’s hard to see us being contenders again any time in the next few years. To the second part, no knock on Stein but I’m just saying Minny has been so ridiculous about this whole process we don’t actually know if they would have taken any offer. Stein also did say they are hell bent on not sending him to us. We never know, my point isn’t sourced are liars, just Minny, Thibs in particular is unpredictable.....and stupid.
Uhh okay cool I get you are coming from. I still woudnt trade PJ, but thats just me. Also sidenote: I would wait before you all decide to completely sleep on Chris Paul, ....just sayin.
Agreed. He’s still going to be a great starting point guard next year too. Just not in his prime. But would be more than good enough to add to Harden Capela and Jimmy in their primes. But anyways, I hate that I even still talk about Jimmy because it has become quite clear we are not getting him.
Yup. Things are pretty hopeless now, but just for this season. We did have a lot of fun last year and unfortunately got very unlucky. The next few months will be painful but atleast we still have the coolest player in the game in Harden, I do think we will see Clint continuously be a very good center, and we are a team that always keeps it interesting thanks to Morey.
Yeah. We’ve set our bar! But jimmy B is a good start and a good bar to be set at for four first. Also considering it isn’t truly their strongest offer. I say they go fishing , wade it out and see what happens. Hanging around. But not too long, this team needs playmakers on the wing and defense. Before December would be great. Call me whatever but the Rockets loosing games should only help this years draft pick position. I’d say they understand the playoffs are what really matters and they know to make it and play once there. Minnesota is watching and maybe, just maybe hold out to get a few more L’s under our belt before they decide to trade him. *shruggs shoulders*!!Crazy huh! Jimmy B. Checks the box.
Yea I loved being the number 1 contender last year, and we.....man sigh, we just had bad luck. The worst part is watching teams taking that spot in our place like the Raptors, its killing me. All we can do now is hope for the best. I still believe in this squad through and through though, so maybe we can make our similar to the Jazz last season, minus the play offs.
