I think you've hit upon something here - Think about who he essentially replaced. The anchor of not only the defense but the locker room and the one guy who held everyone including CP3 and Harden accountable. Now you get Melo who doesn't give much effort on D and is not much of a locker room presence in the regard that Ariza was. Yet he thinks he's Melo of 10 years ago …. while in reality he's washed up. I don't see much defensive effort from anyone not named PJ Tucker or Gerald Green …. who's not even a good defender but at least he gives full effort. Washington isn’t giving up their best trade piece in Bradley Beal for that If they’re not going anywhere, then why would they want the likes of Knight and his 2/30 that’s still owed to him, Ego, Nene who might as well just retire, and scrub Chriss? Just for 2 picks? They could put Beal on the market and get a valuable young player with potential plus a pick or 2.
