I mean, i guess you can make an argument about Goran being better than Gordon, at this stage of his career i'm not sure he is, but again, let's say he's still better, he's not that much better, and he's a declining 32 years old expiring player so...yeah, definitely not great value. Minnie would've to move Teague too at that point, and i don't see any team out there being very interested in Teague and his 38M contract for two years, but that's just me.

Thank you Cyber for the info.

Would think they would be more than willing to give up a 1st instead of PJ.

Also, everyone else's pick is more valuable than ours. So if we are willing to trade someone else's pick (I assume by including another team that wants EG or PJ) then surely we'd rather keep that one and trade our own. Would be unusual to insist on us keeping our own pick when it's certainly going to be worse than anyone else's pick.

from a financial standpoint, losing PJ's salary is better for tilman's lux tax issues. especially if they plan to re-sign butler next summer. and then having a 1st round pick on a cheap 4yr contract also makes sense, financially speaking.

"barring change in slow trade market."

Oh, there's a market! Just not the market Thibs/Layden wants to see for a guy on an expiring contract and gave out a list of preferred teams.
Oh, there's a market if Thibs would actively seek out a deal instead of playing games. He's not trying to seek out a deal because he wants Butler to stay.

Makes sense as we look to add cheap and young talent (first round pick) alongside a core of Capela, Butler, Paul, Harden.

This only makes sense from a financial/luxury tax perspective.

Otherwise, one would suspect it to be the reverse.

No wonder Holic has a mental breakdown in the Sampson thread. His sources clearly put him on to this new development early:rolleyes:

I think Gordon AND PJ should be a very enticing package for Thibs, as a coach you know he's going to love PJ, and tbh they both fit very well in Minnie, they would bring defense, leadership, shooting.

    Towns
    PJ
    Wiggins
    Gordon
    Teague

Personally i don't think they should look for this kind of package, i agree with Mathloom, but Thibs is not going to coach a tanking team, and this might be the only thing he and Taylor see the same way...how many years they've been tanking/sucking? I guess Taylor wouldn't love to go back in the lottery until he dies.

One interesting thing about our pick is that it does have the potential to become more valuable as the season goes on.
This has nothing to do with Jimmy because he will be gone by then, and it’s actually something we would hope isn’t the case, but right now our pick is projected to be 28-30th; but if we’re slow out the gate, which is always a possibility for any western conference team, it could look to move up a couple of spots. Two years ago that was enough to land us Lou.
Anyways, just random thinking as I doubt Morey wouldn’t include the pick if it meant landing Jimmy

I'm a little perplexed too. The only explanation(s) would be, perhaps

    - No one else is willing to part with 1st. Similar to the Paul George situation.
    - CyberX was alluding to direct Butler trade not involving cap relief re. Dieng?!
    - If EG & PJ w/o picks can get us JB. Then post Oct. Morey will surely explore Knight (and/or Chriss) plus 1st for a 1/4 replacement.

No idea. Confusing situation out there.

interesting point at the end -- morey might already have an Oct 31st deal lined up with knight or chriss + our 2019 pick

What.......WHAT, what more do you want. LOL, at this point its not Thibs fault.

And before anyone says this isnt reliable, this is coming from Stein.

That would probably be because we would have to take on Dieng’s contract. Makes sense to me. The Wolves are just being ridiculous and thinking they have some kind of leverage. Tucker and Gordon for rental Butler and bad contract Dieng is fair.

Edit I’m dumb and just realized I’m way off on the salaries

    Nonono..
Not including a pick doesn't have to do with cheap salary as it has to do with trade flexibility.
A first can be the right sweetener for future trades and Morey is trying to keep it because there are many big fishes available.
Now if Minny would accept an unprotected pick straight up then I believe Morey would give it.
But would they just take this lowly asset? Or would it be a pick with multiple years protectiosn that will make it impossible for the Rockets to include 1st picks for years to come.

but butler and dieng together make more than $35M this season, so i don't see how we could take on both of them
