As much as I love Nash... his window is too small to give up those assets for. We might as well keep the pick(s) and save money on Yao's insurance.

I have a feeling we will be waiting until the trade deadline for something to happen. Until then, i'll have my barf bag on me while watching games. :(

What would be great is 3 or 4 GMs thinking of us like that, in that case, Morey would end up in jail for defiling them. Too bad things probably aren't like that, at least until now.

It just makes so much sense but I can't see Nash coming by himself. Nash is a short term upgrade so Gortat or Lopez would have to come along to give us a long term benefit. Nash is a MAJOR upgrade at the PGuard position but without a true center, our interior defense will continue to cost us games.

    I like the Nash/Gortat proposals.

    re: Hoopshype article on Nash:

We won't be able to send them our 2011 1st rounder since we dealt our 2012 1st rounder to the Nets in exchange for Terrence Williams. The only picks we can include in this deal would be our 2012 Knicks 1st round pick and 2014 1st rounder.

The Rockets can't trade their 2011 first rounder before the draft (Ted Stepian Rule).

EDIT: LTF beat me to it!

Hey I borrowed from you -- I didn't know we could send the 2014 pick until you broke it down the other day. Initially, I thought we would be unable to deal the 2014 and beyond draft pick until we satisfied the Nets obligation. But the way you explained it makes a lot of sense -- the CBA seems to have a lot of flexibility that I didn't know about. More and more I realize how similar NBA trades and legal contracts are.

Sure, no problem. Just realize (as I'm sure you do) that other teams will not be enamored with a 2014 pick that they might not actually get until as late as 2018. My guess is that pick doesn't have much trade value.

Agreed -- which is why the Knicks were so desperate to get their 2012 pick back. It's going to be a fun trade deadline.

If that's true, then how were they able to trade their 2012 first rounder?

They traded their 2011 first round pick for New York's 1st round pick... so wouldn't that mean they wouldn't be able to trade their 2012 first round pick?

Ok, I'm done talking about trading draft picks.

It has become quite apparent to me that I have no idea what I'm talking about lol

Hey Bima, in your Nene trade you did not give up Brooks. Suns like Brooks and might move Nash. How about complete the total Morey trade and construct something the Suns might want to get Nash along with Nene! :)

Suns wouldn't throw away Gortat unless they get some real value back. Suns aren't winning a championship anytime soon and Nash is getting up there in age, so it makes sense to see if they can get some value. This is what the Rockets should be doing with some of the older guys like Battier and Scola while they have value. We're not contending any time soon with the current roster, and let's say some how something drastic happens and we do become contenders in 2-3 years. Battier's defense has already started to decline and he could possibly lose another step. Scola doesn't really rely on athleticism but he'll be getting up there in age too.

I'm hoping Morey makes a big move soon and can get a real impact player. If not, our supposed 'assets' are worthless if we can't trade them and continue to be a mediocre team fighting for the 8th spot the next couple of seasons.

We can trade the 2011 pick - we still have NY's 2012 1st-rounder.

    No, thanks.

Nash is a little too old to have to pay the "Wait a minute, he's our whole franchise!" premium it will take to pry him out of Phoenix.

You know, I think I would have been happy with a Nash/Gortat trade for Yao's contract and filler, not so sure now.

I would be ok if the Rockets acquired Gortat if the price was right. I'm not all that impressed with the way he's playing against the Lakers pretty much through the 3rd. Gortat gets lazy around the basket, continually gets outworked by anyone that has size and seems to be out of position often.

Granted it's a very small sample size, but I wouldn't give up much more than Yao's contract to make that deal.

Maybe it wouldnt be a premium. Maybe Brooks, Troy Murphy's Expiring (nene trade), and a future pick?

This needs to get done sooner rather than later.

Nah, this season is over already....we are not going anywhere, Morey needs to take his time and do the right thing.
