I would think for 11 million a year you would at least want your player to an all star. Having said that I would over pay for him depending on who we would have to give up to get him since he definitely fills a serious void on this team. We currently have players we are overpaying for (Kevin Martin) so I am not against overpaying if there is a good reason for it. Kevin Martin would have been good with Yao IMO and Nena would do wonders for our team the way it is currently constructed but Neither is worth 11 million a year IMO.
Yep. For those who don't want to do the math: Since the start of the 2008-09 season: 188 games played (out of a possible 197 games) 32.9 mpg 14.4 ppg 7.7 rpg 2.0 apg 1.11 bpg 1.24 spg 1.72 TOpg 60.0% FG 72.6% FT (but 78.9% so far this season) Very few centers have had that level of production over the past 2-3 years.
Yeah i've really like Nene's game. Jordan Hill couldnt do anything on him the other night! I think more importantly, Nene's defense is pretty under rated. He's like a Chuck Hayes lite who can block shots and has an offensive game.
That's like 16 and 8.5 per 36 with the top ts% in the game and good defense. I'd love to have the guy in a Rockets uniform but I think Denver appreciates what he can do unlike Sac with Martin.
Please name me some players who are worth 11 million to you who are actually being paid 11 million. Better yet, please name me some centers who are worth 11 million to you who are actually being paid 11 million. You might want to reevaluate your perception of the NBA economy if you think either guy is overpaid.
Hey, in fairness to crash, the "NBA economy" is about to be substantially altered in favor of the owners under the new CBA. That said, Nene has no more than one season left on his deal (at $11.6M) before he's a free agent, and he could even opt for free agency THIS summer. Either way, it won't be long before he'll be under a new contract under the new CBA, perhaps even at a lower salary.
I agree. However in fairness to me, I doubt crash was talking about them being overpaid AFTER this summer under the new CBA.
Bima, Nene is bad defender at C and average rebounder, he is not what Rockets need at this position and at this price. He is much better power forward than a center, cause he is strong, he has midrange game and he can defend smaller opponents than average nba center. Jazz destroyed them in playoffs, because they lost Kenyon Martin as a valuable defender due to his injury and bad conditioning, so Utah just blowed them out from the court without Okur and Kirilenko. Kyrylo Fesenko was a beast inside (   ) in controlling the paint but Nene could not do the same on Denver D and Nuggets were destroyed in the paint I'll choose another brazilian, Varejao, he's much more valuable for us
We are all assuming the NBA oWners will get the Big W with the CBA. And it would appear to be a reasonable conclusion. Interesting that Commish Goddell is speaking of making a deal; Commander Stern is talking w-a-r. Let's wait for the CBA's ratification before we start predicting salaries going forward. (My guess is 5 years max; no MLE.)
Maybe even four, not 5 It's not a big definition between 5 and 6 guaranteed years and 4 is more reasonable
If Nene is a bad defender, then Jordan Hill must be a really crappy offensive player. Because Nene made him look like a D-leaguer when Hill tried to post him up.
Eh. I'll be the first to admit that it does NOT. In fact, I posted another variation of this trade idea earlier in the Random Trade Idea thread, since I thought that's where ALL "random trade ideas" belong. The last thing this BBS needs is another thread dedicated to a totally speculative trade idea with no factual basis whatsoever. (Thanks for the compliment, though.)
Hill is raw offensively, no doubt, he is not ready to start or contribute on high level against solid NBA bigmen in every single night. I can say to something the same: remember what Scola did to Martin'less Nuggets and what every solid bigmen did with them in that stretch. Nene was helpless
I used All-star in a confusing way, bad wording from me to try to get the idea across, I’d like to change my words to say Nene is a tier below the best in his position (Per our needs, I consider him a Center). I’d also like to add that quality bigs are always hot stuff in the market, we only have to turn to Dallas and see how much they have been overpaying for bigs since Cuban arrived, it’s beyond generations of Centers. Now that you mention him, Martin is a good point of comparison. Add solid defense and a little more passing ability to Martin and you got yourself a max-contract kind of guy even if he isn’t elite offensively. I’d like more defense from him but I still don’t consider him to be overpaid considering the market, Martin is a tier below the best in his position so the salary seems proportional. I’d like to say that my views are affected by him being tailor-made for our offensive system, especially as a second/third banana; he probably wouldn’t have as much value in some other places.
Well, Hill is kind of a crappy offensive player. While showing flashes of what can be, there is no consistency. Hill has shown the ability to use the jump hook and every once in a while a turn around jumper or even spot up jumper but... It seems as though Hill is very mechanical in his approach, the game rarely seems to flow naturally with him, he thinks more than feels.
To me you’re underrating your post, it really is thread worthy. The way I see it, the fact that it is purely speculative is the only thing preventing it from deserving a ClutchFans Blog publication; nevertheless it’s got great quality.
We need it to be sooner than later, we can't keep getting pounded in the paint. Also, Gortat or Lopez would have to be part of the deal or NO THANKS.
