He is restricted, trust me, I've been wanting the Rox to make a deal for him since last year so i've checked a few times. They are going to move Mayo and Thabeet to open up the money they need to sign him, only way Rox have a shot is if they OVERPAY for the guy. http://www.shamsports.com/content/pages/data/salaries/grizzlies.jsp
I stand corrected... http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/news/story?page=FreeAgents-10-11 i was using hoopsworld...they suck. ESPN says hes restricted... But the point is overpaying for him anyway...as memphis is a severely financially strapped team...and just anchored them team with gays salary.
How about this one? http://members.cox.net/lmcoon/salarycap.htm#Q37 This is Gasol's third season. So, he's restricted.
All but one lol...the one i chose in haste. http://www.hoopsworld.com/Story.asp?story_id=18192 """"""Center (name, team – 2010-11 salary – status) Nene, Denver Nuggets - $11.4 million – Early Termination Option ($11.6 million) Marc Gasol, Memphis Grizzlies - $3.6 million – Unrestricted* Tyson Chandler, Dallas Mavericks - $12.6 million – Unrestricted Yao Ming, Houston Rockets - $17.7 million - Unrestricted""""""""
Outside of Melo, there is really no superstar type players available to hold the cap space for. TimmyD and Tony Parker have early termination options. Duncan is old and highly unlikely to opt out and probably wouldn't be worth offering max dollars to at his age and production. Parker is not a fit here unless he comes with a low, low price tag. He is most likely off to the Knicks or Nets or staying in SA and we've got better than him already. Other than Gasol, who is restricted, and Nene who has an early termination option, there are no other targets to hand big dollars to for the Rockets that make any sense at all. Nobody is going to hand Yao a big dollar contract to chew up their cap and take the risk of him never getting healthy. No teams are that foolish. There will be probably several championship level teams that would be willing to give him the MLE for 3 years and take the chance he can contribute. So, while cap space may be somewhat valuable. I see no use for it unless we have a concentrated play on for Gasol and are going to offer him a big money deal that Memphis has to match. On top of that, you've got the risk of not knowing what the new CBA is going to look like. So, in my humble opinion, Morey is trying to get the jump on all that and if he can get either a superstar or a top notch ad for this team using our current expirings and assets, he will do that. And if he can get the right pieces for Yao, that means a superstar piece, I think he will do that also.
Morey's first option is trying to pry CP3 from the financially strapped Hornets. I think they are gonna have a firesale because they aren't winning anything anytime soon. We could reasonably offer a Yao-Brooks-Jeffries and fillers combo for Okafor/CP3. Then our chances of getting someone like Melo increase. The key to this is you have to divide the assets into what you are willing to give up for Denver and New Orleans. I think we could pull it off if all the dominoes fall into place. Question is, who is more attainable and at what price? Melo or CP3? Who do you try to acquire first to ensure that the other follows him?
Uhmm! how bout we get Josh Smith and Zaza from the Hawks and trade Ming And CBud with some 1st round picks Lowry Martin Smith Scola Zaza  i think i just busted a nut
I don't think there is a first. You get who you can get out of the two. If you can get CP3 first, your chances of landing Melo just may increase. Pipe dream.
CP3 + Okafor for Yao + Brooks + Hill + Budinger + Smith Paul/Lowry Martin/Lee Battier/Williams Scola/Patterson/ Okafor/Hayes/Miller
I don't think there is a person on this board that would turn that down. Question is, are the Hornets selling? I think not, at least not yet. I'm sure Morey has made several calls regarding Paul.
They are losing a ton of money. agreed. RT @MJ4Sports: @davidnuno I would add Memphis. Minnesota, Philly and NO to list teams losing massive cash.
I'm not discounting the possibilty of this happening, I just don't think the Hornets trade Paul unless they feel like they absolutely have too. I def don't see it happening until we get closer to the deadline. Of course I would love to see it happen.
True...but the LEAGUE itself now owns the Hornets and I don't know how all that luxury tax thing would work out, if your paying a tax to yourself or who? But I'm guessing they're gonna be making some moves to get the team under the tax and not keep it in debt for the next owner or group who is gonna buy the team...there might be something there...
I'm shocked at what the Rockets are expecting back for Yao's contract.. they want draft picks, prospects and expiring contracts? Why the hell would any team do that?
