It doesnt matter what Carmelos top priorities are. His wife wears the pants in the house and she wants New York or New Jersey for her acting career. Her words are more important than a extra million here or there. Carmelo and his wife are totally enamored wth New York. I am 100% he ends up there. No matter what. Thats why he keeps stalling his team every time they make a deal. He will end up messing over whoever gets him if it isnt the Knicks or Nets and he signs first and then gets traded.
Ok, let's say we get Carmelo and he decides to bolt, what kind of return could we expect from the Knicks in a trade scenario?
I'm not. Carmelo is going to either the Knicks or Nets, end of story. However, if Morey can trade for him this year, I have no doubt he'd agree to a sign and trade at the end of the year with one of those teams. Otherwise, he'd leave millions on the table AND have to sign his next contract under the new CBA, which Stern has already said needs to reduce salaries by 1/3. Even if it ends up being only a 10% reduction in max contracts, that's still HUGE money Melo would forfeit by not letting us S&T him.
If Morey is given a sign by Melo or his agent they would resign with us for the right contract? Then trade for him. If he keeps his same open options no signing after the trade stance? Do not trade for him.
No doubt about DM's ability to surprise. None of us saw the T-Will coming; we were debating whether or not he was a failure as a GM (I never thought so, BTW) at the time. DM will pull off 2-3 significant deals by the deadline. No question.
What if Morey sat down with Melo and his people and laid out a blueprint of acquiring that second star alongside him. I think the key to any Melo trade is to not give up too much and save some assets down the line for a possible CP3 trade. That is where Yao's insured contract comes to place. I believe that the league owns the Hornets and they are losing money in the worst way and with the possible contraction talks, I think a financially strapped team like the Hornets would look to shed salary for a better bang for their dollar to appease a possible buyer. If any GM can do it, it's Morey.
Has morey ever acquired a 1st star to start with? Look, If I'm denver, I'm trading carmello to the east coast. Just like the pacers had a better deal in place for mcgrady, they don't want to see him on the west this year. I will play this game though for fun, what is the rockets offer?
I really think Moreys going after CP3. Thats what I got from the rumors over New Orleans and Charlotte possibly being involved with us. That means either possible Wallace, Capt Jack, Paul, Okafor to match salaries with trading Yao as the other rumor. This is one way to get Chris Paul among others as a example. http://games.espn.go.com/nba/tradeMachine?tradeId=2w3xol5
Yes I meant in a S&T scenario. Carmelo said in an interview that he doesn't want to play for a system similar to what the Knicks run, having to outscore everyone on a nightly basis to win, I don't remember word for word but they did ask him about D Antoni in the same interview and his reply was something along those lines.
If Charlotte is involved I would really really like to get either Wallace or Augustine... We know Sacramento likes Brooks. Send him over there, try to get Cousins and Augustine/Wallace back.
In the ESPN article, it stated that any deal involving Melo would also ask the team to absorb Harrington and another bad contract. I'd do this trade if I'm Houston and this offer is too much for Denver to refuse. Denver could ship Brooks out to a 3rd team for an a big and they can absorb Yao's contract and only have to pay for half of his salary and get 8 million dollars in savings from insurance. Billups/Lowry Martin/Lee Carmelo/Williams Scola/Harrington/Patterson Dalembert/Miller/Hayes I think that could put us in Lakers, Mavs, Spurs and Jazz category as a contender, IMO.
But won't the league use the opportunity to build a winner in New York? Especially if Anthony and Paul indicate they'd like to play there?
So the nuggets get thompson and hill for carmello, nene, and chauncey, lol. Ok,lets play this game. If you're denver, would you rather have chandler and randolph or thompson and hill? Maybe thats not doing it for you, how about a guy people think can become dwight howard and the youngest player in the league?
What? I never mentioned us getting Nene. I am under the impression that the Nuggets would want to rebuild around Nene/Afflalo/Lawson. I think Nene is untouchable. Chandler is a free agent after this season and I think he will command a raise and Randolph, while good, has no interest from the Nuggets. I don't think Melo would agree to an extension from New Jersey, unless they can aquire that 2nd star alongside Melo, which is doubtful. No way they give away Favors for a Melo rental.
Why would the hornets trade away a good and possibily the best PG for AB? I like AB, but I just don't see him as the same league as Paul, same likewise I am sure the hornets don't see it too...
Hornets have had some issues. I'm not sure whether they want to appease Paul and get serious or save money and sell. I don't think they're sure what they want either.
