http://espn.go.com/blog/truehoop/post/_/id/23289/camby-wants-to-stay-in-portland Carmelo trade to Houston a strong possibility perhaps?
[rquoter] Rockets discussing Yao deal The Rockets, looking to use Yao Ming's $17.7 million expiring contract to add a potential star or two to its roster, recently called Sacramento and offered the 7-foot-6 center for Samuel Dalembert and DeMarcus Cousins. The Kings had no interest, and are definitely not trading Cousins anywhere, according to sources. Despite its poor record, Sacramento (5-23) likes its future with young building blocks Cousins and Tyreke Evans. Whatever the new salary cap is after the next collective bargaining agreement, the Kings will be far beneath it and could have more money to spend in free agency than just about any other team. So if they do make any trades this season, they won't be ones in which they add lots of salary. [/rquoter] Interesting.
Don't know why they are after Cousins the guy is untouchable AND makes no sence why Sacramento would trade him. That is like a Pau Gasol type deal. They must value Yao extremely high for a guy who played 5 games in 2 seasons.
My thing is, does this close the gap on La,Sa,Dallas in the west with a move like this? The answer is yes to me. I think this kind of trade would elevate them by a wide margin. Why? Battier,Lee,Hill, and Hayes on the bench would be a very versitile, defensive group. In my opinion, livingston getting his legs back can help get those guys points. Brooks,Martin,Wallace,Scola, and Diop is a ready to go starting 5 offensively and defensively. I really don't want Diop, but I would really want wallace.
leebigez, who would you rather get if you had the choice? Wallace and his remaining contract or a possible Carmelo rental?
Why not go after Whiteside that guy is like Camby inside can block a lot of shots and can hit the 18 footer. The dude has a 7'7 wing span longer then McGee who has a 7'6 wing span.
Well, the new ESPN article says otherwise. Broussard mentioned that we have the most assets and are willing to "rent" him.
I don't really buy the idea of a 'Carmelo rental'. He's made clear that he has every intention of signing an extension.. I believe he said it would be the first thing to get done when he was traded. I think a lot of teams believe this, including the Rockets, though maybe not 100%. The Rockets should make a hard push to acquire him because I don't believe he's really willing to play out the season without an extension.
I am in love with this organization but I dont think I can stand behind these "we are confident we can turn a rental into an extension" gambles. That makes me extremely nervous.
I don't like the rental idea imo he won't even try and will quit the season early because he's going to NY. Just like LeBron who quit in the playoffs because him and Wade are but buddies.
I believe Broussard said we could get Bosh too, you see how that turned out. Something tells me the Rockets are very much in the running for Melo. You can almost feel something very big happening this time around. I'm calling my shot and saying Morey lands someone that is going to surprise the hell out of the fans. lee, I understand you wanting Wallace, but I believe Morey has something bigger he's trying to accomplish. I'm also not buying Livingston being good enough to take Lowry's spot. No way I make your proposed deal.
Just say no to Carmelo. No rentals whatsoever. If the guy cant get his head on straight about coming her before he signs? Forget about him and his D level celebrity wannabe wife. We dont have glitz and glamour of New York. Just a solid organization better than the Knicks.
I would be very comfortable with you Wallace scenario if we then traded Shane for Varejao, as you asked in the other thread. We would upgrade at 2 positions instead of the contrary in the standalone trade. There I’d say we shortened the gap for sure, although I would feel something would be missing to be a top 3 team in the league.
Well, you gotta put yourself in Carmelo's shoes. Hypothetically, if Melo is traded to Houston, imo, I believe we can offer the better package than the Mavs or Cats, do you risk losing millions of dollars by walking and sign with New York for less? I believe Melo's top priority is the money with going to New York or NJ being second. I don't believe for one second that Melo leaves possibly 20 million dollars on the table. That's money he can never get back, especially with the new CBA looming. I'm confident that Morey can and will convince Melo to stay here long term.
What makes you think Melo wouldn't sign the extension with Houston? I think the whole "lore of playing in New York" is just BS being overrated by the media.
Like Bima says, it's not dependent on him signing with us. It's that, it's much better for Carmelo to sign under his Bird rights than as a FA; we would do s S&T with his new team, and if we didn't get some assets from the new team, we could just walk, release our other FAs (Battier, Jeffries, Hayes, whoever else we'd have), and we'd be under the cap, anyhow. Plus, we'd have a wink-wink before we even did the first deal. I'm a little uncomfortable with this, but I guess they could have it all set up, so we'd still make out.
I think we have the assets to covet both wallace and anthony at minimum cost. Yao's contract being available for trade makes things a lot easier. Think of Battier/JJ/Yao/Hayes/Brooks as expirings and you can easily ship em out with picks and young players to rent or purchase the services of any of the available allstars out there.
